Gunk in Crankcase?

Well today i took my valve cover off to paint it, and i noticed there's a lot of build up in the bottom of the crankcase. Is this normal for a car with 130k? And does anyone have any techniques for getting it out? I'm afraid to use a cloth because i don't want to leave anything in there.

you mean sludge? Yeah it happens with oil. Use an engine flush.
