Ok guys, I have some questions. What are some good hand guns with decent prices. I'm lookin for a smaller to medium size gun for target shooting mostly. I have rifles and shot guns at home, but would like to purchase a hand gun. Any ideas of places to check for used guns or should I just buy a new one?

Sig owns your life. Seriously, some of the best handguns out there and decently priced, especially when you take into consideration the quality you're getting.

Sig is always a good choice...

got any more specifics as to what you're gonna use the gun for though?

if it's just target, can't go wrong with a nice Ruger .22

a 9mm would be good for target as well due to the cheap ammo prices. It can also double for a defensive round with some of the good hollowpoint loads available.

as far as the 9mm goes, there's tons to choose from. Sig, HK, Glock, Springfield, Smith and Wesson, Walther, Beretta, the CZ-75 and some others I'm forgeting...

if you want a bigger round there's always the .45ACP! I prefer it in the 1911 style, Kimber makes an excellent gun at good prices. (650-1200, really good for what you're getting though).

Then there's revolvers....can't go wrong with a new Smith and Wesson. Taurus, Colt and Ruger offer great guns too though. I'd probably go with a 4 inch barrelled .357 Magnum for target and carry. They're usually light, not very bulky, and pack plenty of power without much recoil. They can also shoot .38 Special which is pretty damn cheap.

Anything less than a Cassull 454 in a revlover is for girls.

uh huh....

care to shoot a .44 Mag with 240 grainers all day and tell me your wrist really doesn't hurt?

when carrying, over penetration is a bad thing...

if elephants learn how to mug and carjack, I'll consider something bigger....

why you gotta say revolver anyway? unless of course you think all auto's are for women?

I enjoy revolvers...something about them...

I could go for one of the Taurus trackers in 357 with that weird titanium blue finish right now...

I don't want a revolver. I want a clipped gun. Something cheap with cheap ammo. How much would a 9mm go for? And do you need a pistol permit to buy these things and carry them or what?

you need a permit to carry. atleast in every state other then Vermont...

I'm not sure about the laws in Ohio, but you should be fine to just go out and buy one...

if you want one just for target, I'd suggest an EAA Witness, they're pretty accurate, not exspensive, and you can change out the calibers by switching out the slide, barrel and magazine. They may still make the colored polymer frame models too, so if your heart desires, you can get one in hot pink...

Next question, how do you get a permit and is it good in all states?

Are you 21?

as far as I know, each state licenses their own people. You cannot! carry your gun from WA to Idaho to Montana and pretend like your Wa state license to carry a concealed pistol is valid.

L.E.S.A. --Law Enforcement Support AgencyFind the one in your town and get an app for conceal permit.

My most recent Sig in 9mm was $715 altogether, hardly on the cheap

Browning Hi-Power for 9mmKimber 1911 (or similar derivative) for 45 ACP

I highly prefer single action, particularly for target shooting.Neither are particularly cheap, but how many cheap pistols do you want to be disappointed in before you finally break down and buy quality?

I love my Walther, and it wasn't priced too bad. I believe the Indiana laws are similiar to the Ohio ones. You go to the city-county building if your outside city limits or the police station if your inside, You fill out an application to get a concieled weapons permit(you can also get a target/hunting liscience, but most people get the concieled weapons one) and pay a fee, they run a background check and as long a you pass they send back another form that you fill out. All in all it takes about 4 weeks, In Indiana they don't keep track of the guns you own or the serial numbers, but I'm not sure about Ohio.

Heh, a friend of mine has a 500 S&W. Fun as hell, but it can hurt!Naw...for something practical you don't want to go any bigger than 357. Maybe a 357 Baby Eagle, that's what I'd say. Or if you wanted a gun with more...presence...go with the full size Desert Eagle. My dad's 45 ACP is a great gun, too. Good solid feel, well built, easy to clean and its accurate.

If you want a STRICTLY target gun...get an 22LR. The ammo is dirt cheap. If you want something that can double as both, get a 9mm. Check out http://www.packing.org to find out getting a permit and in what states the OH permit is recognized. There's a lot of overlap and it changes all the time.
