You just have to follow the rules

Seems like a good idea to me only I think the fees should be higher to keep out the riff raff.

That is just silly enough to be a law.

I think the polls we posted here about a week ago pretty much shows that the American people are overwhelming in favor of private gun ownership, however, they also favor local registration and some degree of control.

It sounds like Mr Sykes is trying to register as a gun dealer in the District. Which I would expect to be a bureaucratic nightmare.

What you are not hearing is the fact that the DC Mayor and the Police department are not complying with the Supreme Court's ruling and effectively banning all semi automatic firearms from being registered in the District of Columbia. d!ck Heller could only register his .357 Magnum revolver after the Supreme Court ruling and now he and the NRA are suing the District of Columbia again. I hope to hell the courts fine the Mayor or the District of Columbia for contempt of court. That would be sweet justice.

They are trying really hard to find loopholes in the law. And that is an interesting one. You remember SCOTUS spending so much time in the oral arguments talking about what the founding fathers were thinking when they wrote the law? They seem to have tailored this statute to follow that argument. I wonder how long this is going to take before the court has to once again address the issue.

You should expect to hear a few more cases come out of DC vs. Heller. Specifically the Chicago (and area) bans.bud

The District is such an interesting little entity. Most of the land is under federal control and the parts that are not cannot seem to get anything done. The news here is always investigating something the government has either not done or not done correctly. It's pretty entertaining sometimes to an outsider.

This is just the most recent example of how they can manage to waste time and money. They really must have seen this coming this case had been in progress and litigation for years, and they could not come up with a plan? The DC government seemed like they were caught with their pants down on this, their initial response was this amazing series of hoops in order for citizens with impeccable criminal records to own a hand gun. I can understand the ban on assault rifles and to a lesser extent maybe semi automatics in a small city, but its not like you can take them into most places here. That's why I like living in VA anyone can buy a rifle if you are old enough to hold one and you only need to be 18 to get a hand gun, you only need a license to carry a concealed weapon. Good old south lol

Well, if the District of Columbia decides to prohibit its citizens from conceal or open carry in its jurisdiction then that is ok under the current laws. And is something that the DC leadership has mis-represented in order to scare its constituency.

What DC v. Heller revolves around is the right of a person to own and defend themselves with a firearms in/on their home/property.

This reminds me an awful lot of the old joke:

Q. Why does Washington, D.C. have all the lawyers and New Jersey have all the toxic waste dumps?

A. New Jersey got first choice.

They were the smart ones!

It's a terrible idea. Why grant a monopoly to one guy?

Why the heck is he in Anacostia? That place is a war zone.

rifles and shotguns 18

handguns 21.

please try to be as factual as possible since there is alot of misinformation on the forums and arguments over gun/gun control.
