Hey everybody, most of you know me from the general forum. Has anyone ever looked into the Gude package for the KA24DE platform? If not, I'm getting info on their packages- I just wondered if anyone already had gotten one of the packages and/or what they thought of them. Was there any significant performance increase? Does it decrease your gas mileage with power increase? Just wondering as I'm considering getting one? Thanks!Cat

never heard anything about gude, but gude is extremely reputable in the Honda world where they've actually found gains of close to 50 horse in N/A apps

if you spent all that money to make 180 wheel horsepower would you be mad? i wouldn't its SR swap power for less money and more motor

Right now I'm just trying to get a little more performance out of my stock engine because I can't currently afford to buy a new engine to swap out, so no I wouldn't mind if it gave me 40 more horse. It's a work in progress, and with my intake and exhaust, in theory it'll only add more horsepower. Any gain right now is good in my opinion, as it's another step in the right direction.

Honestly, I am on the fence about the SR swap. What I have read, and have been told is that the Ka24DE is capable of the same or more horse to the wheels than the SR20 platform, plus I want to try to do something that most people don't do anymore because everyone is swapping. I'm planning on possibly picking up another KA24DE next year and turboing it. Right now I'm really just looking for options as this is my first 240sx. I'm not really planning on drifting it yet, but may try autoX next year once everything is done.

Do you know of any places like Gude that make performance parts for the SR20 platform? I'd like to compare since you planted that little evil seed of info in my brain. I like to be very thorough on stuff, and once Icompile some info I'll share. Thanks for your opinion!

i'm just gonna keep pushing you in the N/A direction that i feel is just about to start booming

I'm in the exact same situation you are, and since i jsut pulled the motor out of a car that i blew the transmission up in i'm thinking a whole lotta N/A.

if you're going turbo K/A later might as well start gaining useful parts for the KA. The only thing that wont be of any use to you once you go turbo is a header, which you can easily buy adn sell for cheap and high compression pistons

a low boost turbo motor is kinda fun, but if you wanna start shooting for anything in the 300+ range of a KA-T you're gonna need internals. if it were an SR it would be a better story, but i'm never going to tell anyone to buy an SR unless its a DE.

since we're in the same situation adn you said you were kinda broke...

high compression pistons (just use E's isn't 11.1 to 11.3 enough?)Cams (stockers or purchased aka 248/248 248/240 248/232 etc, or pdm jwt etctune (biki rom, devious ka, rom editor, live edit, emanage, jwt, safc, just whatever you're willing to put effort intoitb'sheader and turbo exhaust (aka 3 in, or less if youre a weenie)pulleys and ac delete, e fan dry sump? e water pump?this isnt even touching any headwork yet so.... basically whatever tricks you can find along the way like ridiculous ignitions or whatever your tune allows

other 240s are gonna wonder why they arent hearing a "psssh" as you blow past them between shifts

oh sorry to actually answer your question, when i think of the "gude" equivalent for the SR20 i think of places like tomei or jun or toda or signal auto or yashio factory, all places ive never seen in my life. Kinda hard to find american shops that are "specialists" in a non-us motor, but they are all over i imagine

I'm going to check into the Gude package and let everybody know, because if the numbers are interesting enough, I think I might try their package. I'll let everyone know what I come up with.

One of my friends bought the package for his accord. And when we got the head it looked like ****. It looked like some redneck strapped it to the back of his pickup and drove for 10 miles. The ports were really ruff and didn't look like anyone try to polish it at all

There was only a gain on the topend do to the fact that they sent him an intake for a se which has a dual stage intake.

I would say put the $1500 towards a swap or a ka-t build up

Thanks for that bit of info, I probably won't go that route then. I have so many ideas for the car and don't know what direction to go in with it, but my original thought was the KA-T.

I know where I'm starting from because I have a pile of parts sitting in my trunk waiting to go in. My boyfriend and best friend both have suggested just staying N/A. My best friend turboed his Eclipse GSX and did all sorts of upgrades to get there. About "$12,000 dollars later", he says that he'll never get out of the car what he put into it, but it can go 160mph. I've only been up to 130 in it, which I think is just insane anyway. He actually seems to have more problems with it because it is a turbo. So I don't know what I'm going to do- I will be letting you guys know what I'm doing with my car at least. I think for now I'm going to forgo the turbo and just work on getting her kinks worked out. Let me know what your experiences have been with it if you would N/A and turbo??

or maybe gude is smart.... the only ports that should be polished are the exhaust side anyway, otherwise on the intake side you risk fuel drop out

either way....

a stock 240sx will easily do 130 anyway, so if that scares you take all your dough and start throwing it into suspension

or at the very least just stick to bolt ons, and 240s have way too many kinks not to work out before you plan on throwing any boost at it

Gudes package are okay so Ive heard. They claim 11.0 compression from the milled head. Not possible IMHO without pistons. They make the kit for the E and De, and with bolt ons maybe 25+hp to the wheels. They did wonders on my friends zetec focus. It made alot of power.

It's not. If you cut a OHC head, you change cam timing. On the DE the max is .012", which in and of itself, might bring compression to the 10:1 range (maybe), not enough to make serious power. But it would be nice, assuming you never boosted or blew a head gasket. After that, you would never get the cams set up right again, at least w/o adjustable gears.

Also, I noted from your sig that you need eurethane. I have a few left over from the Sway bars if you are not getting the master kit.

Thanks, I was considering the master kit because my man found them cheap some place, but it won't be until the spring if I do. I will let you know if I need them, though.

Sorry I apologize because I misspoke yes they were turboed from the factory, he upgraded his turbo and sent out and had ported and polished the engine, put in bigger pistons, etc. I could go on all day but I won't. Just to clarify that I did know what I was trying to talk about. I was trying to discuss stuff with him on the phone and type at the same time. Without editing that obviously didn't work.

i believe tha Nissan N/A scene is about to bloom also.. i mean, the Honda guys have seen major N/A gains so.. why cant we?

exactly... otherwise, how much money are you looking to spend? if you want something cheap with an iron block that is pretty boost worthy, drop that 1500 towards a CA.. they are really cheap, under two grand that i know of.

zerothread?id=113477That should help you out. I should also add that I am still sourcing custom shims and the valves are hella loud! The cam is the only thing I really regret about the package. Custom shims appear to be very expensive and I might just change the cam if the alternatives are not cost effective. Good Luck.

How did I never see that thread before?! I'm doing a lot of the same stuff to my car (albeit with different custom-more expensive- parts). I had been looking at the gude package, but decided against it when my mechanic told me he had a great machinist that could do the job without having to ship the head out.

With drifting being the thing we are known for, I do not see a likely NA scene. However, I am happy to see anyone modify their car however makes them happy. Gude does make an NA package. It is about 1100 bones, and they claim up to a 60 HP gain on a 'well tuned' KA. But if I were you, and you are wanting to boost anyway, just spend that on boost parts.
