i just recently put in a new headunit and my guages and surrounding miscellaneous backlit buttons no longer light up? i assume this is from some faulty wiring i did with the stereo, but could somone please help me remedy this? i just got all my speakers working and i want to go drive but its dark :(

edit - and yes i have played with the dimmer switch, i dont just have my lights off and dont realise it :)

edit - the car is a '95 240sx se

Try the TCU (Timing Control Unit), white little box under ****pit fuse box driver side kick panel. Might be burnt up!

You might have shorted a wire, which probably burned out your TCU. I know this, because I did it this past summer. I'm betting on the TCU, but I could be wrong. Check all of your fuses with a fuse tester, before you go buying other parts or tearing stuff apart.

i am looking for this timing control unit you guys are talking about, but i cant seem to find any little white box near my driverside fuse box? there is a white plastic cover over some jumble of electronics that is about 3" x 6" but i wouldnt really call it little..?

btw this is in an s14, maybe you guys have s13s?

hm well i have checked and S14's dont have a TCU so does anyone have any ideas besides check all the fuses? also are there any other fuses that i could check besides the ones in the kickpanel and the ones in the engine bay? or maybe any inline fuses that i am missing?

ok, turn on your lights then go check to see if your tail lights are on. If they are, I have no idea what the problem is. If they are off then you have blown a fuse, i think 3rd down on the left line of fuses in your kickpanel. hope this helps.

right on the money, i went through my fuses again and i am popping my tail light fuse. ive popped 2 so far, do you know what could be causing this? it sounds like youve had this problem before. (side note - my side markers and corner lights dont work either, oh man i hope this is all related cause i dont want to have broken my whole electrical system lol)

sounds like you have a wire crossed and it's grounding out. i'd go through all your wiring. you might have a wire touching your frame or something

Yeah double check your wiring. Also, put a 10 amp fuse back in there. If it's rated for a 10, make sure a 10 is in there, otherwise you can cause some problems with the electrical system.
