gauge cluster light dead

Hey, me and my brother tried to wire a boost gauge into the dimmer swith and when we turned the headlights on the gauge cluster lights went out. We checked the fuse under the dash and it was dead. So we got a new one and it still didnt work. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem? thnaks-Brad
