I'm looking to buy an R32 skyline in Canada and the prices usually fall into the following range:

GTS $6K - $8KGTS-T $7K - $10KGTR $14K - $18K

A GTS-T can be had for roughly half the price of a GTR and my question is this, I don't want to spend more than $20K on car/engine (forget about wheels, suspension, exterior, as these will be the same upgrades for either car). So with that said, which would be the better route to go? I've been told to stay away from every GTS (no power at all), and if I buy a GTR I can put about $5K in the engine (Canadian $). Will a GTR with $5K under the hood still be better than a GTS-T with $10K-$12K under the hood?

Thanks for any help in advance, also I'm not really sure what $5K can do to a japanese car but I'm assuming a hell of a lot more than any mods for a german car...

So I looked for some skylines in places other than Autotrader and the prices are waaaay cheaper. A GTS-T costs around $4K-5K and a GTR around $10K-$12K, in ok condition.

$5000 in mods to a GT-R will blow your mind. But $10k and over to a GTS-t is quite a lot of money to dump into an RB20. The RB26 responds very well to simple bolt-ons and with it being a bit larger than the RB20, twin turbo, already with an FMIC and the AWD, it's just a better bargain. Plus the resale on the GT-R will be much greater than the GTS-t. You will never get out what you put in, but your losses won't be as bad with the GT-R. They seem to appreciate in value as opposed to depreciating.

Plus....for a brief moment (literally), I contemplated the GTS for the sake of the cost.

But as soon as I thought it, I knew that I'd never be satisfied with it.

Instead of going "Holy ****, i got a Skyline!" like I still do now, I'd just be going "I wish it was a GT-R" every time I looked at it.

That's for sure. Better off with a civic than a GTS.

As far as the GTSt, who says you have to stick with a RB20? Even with the RB20, you can make around 400hp'ish and still have the "ooooo" factor with the clazy radies I have all kinds of fun with my set up (see avatar thingy). Over here it's actually a sleeper since it looks like ever other slow a$$ Y-plate GTSt with $1k worth of blow off valve, wing, and intercooler. If you can afford the GTR though, I'd do it.

Big question is, what do you plan to do with the car?

I plan to modify it but not to the point where it cannot be a daily driver. I will probably only drive it once or twice a week max, and seldomly enter an auto-x event now and again. I don't want to keep it anywhere near stock but I don't want a trackslut either. This is why I was thinking something around $5K under the hood nothing more.

It sounds like the majority of people here are saying GTR because of the factory upgrades compared to the GTS-T and resale value. Oh, and I can't forget the pimp factor...

To me it depends on what you want to do with it. cause a GTS W a 20G turbo will blow your mind as well as a GTR with a Few mods the GTS-T is a Fun driving car cause of the RWD set up but the GTR is a Fun track car and all around more sport oriented. You can not do too many Burn outs in the GTR or drift the GTR like you can with a GTS-t But you can grip the road like no other car in the world in a GTR at 160K. So I have owned many of Both and would say it all in what you want to drive.
