Yet another page in the next GT-R development unfolds...

a) Nissan are well aware of the popularity of the GT-R outside of Japan, and are looking to make the next GT-R well and truly stand out more than previous incarnations. The "World Market GT-R" as it were... just by translating the article from Holiday Auto, you can feel that the next GT-R has truly broken away from the "old" R-series GT-Rs... (I can hear the crying and monitor bashing from here!)

b) Porsche 911 Turbo is going down... in fact, it seems Nissan are already claiming victory (???)... such is their confidence after the Nurburgring tests. Aparently, the first test failed because some driveline hardware was faulty, but the subsequent 2 tests were successful enough for Nissan to make final descisions on the driveline: 3.2L V6 Twin electric-assisted Turbo, FR-L platform (Primary Front engine/Rear wheel drive transaxel, motor-assisted front wheel drive or "e-4WD") with Getrag 7-speed sequential gearbox.

After much deliberation about 3.0, 3.5 and even 4.1L capacities for the VQ engine, they've decided on 3.2. The thing to bear in mind here is the Porsche 911 Turbo... it seems Nissan may want to defeat Porsche with less capacity...

Expected final power output: 480ps @ 7,200rpm, 58.0kg/m @ 5,200rpm.

c) Other specs of note are the "semi-wet sump" (as opposed to the dry sump originally quoted) and the aluminium spaceframe, steel cabin and bulk usage of carbon throughout.

And now... let the cursing and coffee spitting-out begin...

This... my fellow brethren... is one of the submissions from a joint Nissan Japan/Europe/US design team that is going into the draw for an "in-house" GT-R design competition...

Just when you thought they couldn't F$%# up the GT-R design anymore... I give you:

THE REAR END!!!

Of note here is the 255/40/20 front, 285/35/20 rear tyre size on 20" wheels.

Thats about it for now... theres still quite alot of the article that hasn't been translated yet, but it all centers around the transaxel and Getrag gearbox which even Holiday Auto themselves aren't so sure about (the Getrag box in particular).

N.B(copied word for word from Rezz of K'sGarage Japan)

Well, so much for me investing in one. I had plans, but I refuse to drive something that looks like *** regardless of the performance.

Me thinks a mag editor got carried away with photoshop and a picture of a Z. At least one can hope.

looks like they are going for a very watered down look instead of the muscle car look........ I mean would that scare you out of your lane like an R32/ R33/ R34 if you saw that in your rear-view?

Still it is not the final look and I am still keeping the faith, we have well over a year or more to go at least before the preproduction models are let loose.

And at least the round tail lights are back

I just can't see them screwing it up. If you ask me, we're only seeing these pics to build up the hype more that it already is. I wouldn't be surprised if the final looks nothing close. Isn't it coming over here as an Infiniti? If so, the front obviously won't work. I think the back would look much better if the lights were by themselves and not in the rectangle. But then I guess it would look Ferrari like huh?......

O man is that fugly. They should keep it muscle car look. That is what the GT-R is reknown for. Dang it, why are they screwing it up so badly? Also why as an infiniti? They already have the G35. Infiniti cars IMHO are supposed to represent class and sophistication, not sporty and racy. Infiniti's are supposed to be similar to the Lexus class. O man they are screwing everything up.

I'm so not digging these concept drawings of the GT-R... I hope they bring it back with the same appeal the R series had. I realize the RB motor is a thing of the past, but I'm still clinging to the hope about the overall design...

Nissan don't fail me now!

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

The new GT-R is NOT coming over as an Infiniti, but as a Nissan. It is expected to be their flagship model.

Don't worry, someone somewhere will make an R34 front conversion kit. I will put money on it.

Well I will go the route of PS to KW (we use metric here downunder) then it shouldn't be too hard to translate that to horsepower for you

100 Kilowatts equates to about 137 PS

so 480 ps divided by 135 ps = 3.5 x 100kw = 350 Kilowatts at the flywheelwhich is massive for a stocker

1 Kilowatt = 1.37 Horsepower so that would be about 470 Horsepower at the flywheel

Give or take a 20% loss through the drive train you would be looking at close enough to 380 Horsepower at the wheels

And after doing that equation I have realised that my lowly R33 GTST has 280 horsepower at the wheels (my brain hurts .... when is the USA gunna join the rest of the world and go metric?)

Man the new GT-R however it looks will be an absolute beast.

Love to know how much it is going to weigh...... then we could kind of work out the kind of times it could run.

First of all, Gaum isn't a place, so that will be hard to do. Second of all, Guam is a U.S. Territory, so you'd have to beat out Bush for that one.

Still, I'd rather have a Porsche. Plus, there is no way in hell that Porsche will let a Japanese company better them for good. Kinda like the S30 that was supposedly the poor man's Ferrari....still not a Ferrari. Nissan needs to stop chasing and learn their place.

So I wonder if all this means that they'll release a 450ps car in Japan, thus breaking the traditional 280ps "gentleman's agreement" there.

I sincerely hope the thing comes over as a Nissan, if it costs $80k no one will buy one, people will just buy 911s. The GT-R isn't meant to be in the NSX's price range. If it starts at around $45-50k, MAYBE $55k, it'll likely sell like mad with that kind of HP. They have to remember that the STI and Evo are the real competition here.

I thought I read that it was in a couple of different magazines a while back (not sure which ones). I'm also wondering why it's being driven in a G35 coupe shell instead of a Z shell if it's going to be a Nissan. In my opinion with it's price and ability, it makes sense for it to come here as an Infiniti. Sure it'll be great for the enthusiasts out here to make it a Nissan, but what about those who have a lot of money to throw around and know nothing about a GT-R or it's history? Are the more wealthy ones going to want to buy a $55k Nissan that isn't a Titan or Armada?

Aren't we expecting to see another Z twin turbo pretty soon? If so, where does that leave the Infiniti? I'm placing my bet that GT-R will be Infiniti no matter what folks are saying now. It makes no sense to me for it to be any other way.

P.S. Remember, the GT-R originally came from the Skyline (now G35)lineup. and yes I know it's a separate car now. But look what side the Skyline is on...

i think it should stay somewhat afordable...with the new Toyota supra, or what might become the supra, nissan needs a good competitor against that. the Z is good but to me the supra and skyline just are classic rivals
