Awesome forum so much good information just need a few things clearified looking to drop either SR20 DET GTIR or the SR20DET into a 2001 sentra xe. (QG18DE b14 i think) from what i have read the stock transmission could handle both. which will make a better swap? because they are both turbo i would have to change the exhaust is that true? any recommendations? (brand, links) im planning on upgrading everything on the part list article posted as well. the engine will be getting swapped at the place i am buying the engine just want to know whats going on before hand and what needs to change before they start charging me extras and giving me the run around. you guys are the real experts :D

A few clarifications:

You have a B15 (00-06).The GTi-R uses an SR20DET, but it has a larger turbo and different head than the Bluebird and Avenir versions.

I seem to recall the 1.8's transmission being the same as the 2.0s (minus the LSD).

You'd need a new exhaust system for sure, even if it did bolt up, the restriction would kill your turbo. There are a few brands out there. Check our advertisers - http://nicoclub.com/addirectory.shtml

I hope the shop knows what they're getting into. This isn't a drop-in and go swap. The GTi-R will require a different flywheel setup, among other things. Do a search for GTi-R swap and you'll be able to find all the differences.

The GA->SR parts guide doesn't quite fit what you're doing since you have a B15. You'll want to use 00-01 SE parts instead of SE-R parts, but I think most of the GXE stuff is actually the same as the SE.

if you are a newb to cars as you say, i wouldnt jump right into an engine swap then, its a great investment in time and money and i would recommend a bit more experience in tuning and maintainence. wait a little while, learn what you can and when your mentally ready, do the swap. just a thought. good luck.
