So I bought a GT35 turbo from jgy customs quite awhile ago... I only ran the turbo for about 100 miles though before I torn down my engine last April.. I left the compressor housing detached from the rest of the turbo for a long time sitting in a box.. Well, a few months ago I went to reconnect it and all 6 threads stripped out around the housing. Note that this was only hand tight, no even using a wrench yet... the threads came right out still attached the bolts.. so I have 6 empty holes.

I guess the question is, do I take the housing to a machine shop and have them retap it.. or try it myself with a helicoil? I don't think I have a warentee or anything since it's been so long, but I only used the turbo for a short amount of time..

Does the bolt need to be any certain size? If not just re-tap but if so then like you said I would just go ahead and use some helicoils on it, you should not have any problems with either though.

Heli coil FTW!I've used heli coils on just about everything at on time or another. If you have enough material around the bolt hole, then you could just tap a size larger.
