Whats up, im looking to upgrade an sr turbo and i found a GT3071r Ar .50 and 56 trim, for a good price. This is my first turbo upgrade and im wondering if its a good turbo. Also is it good for about 400 wheel HP and decent spool up. Its going to be a daily driver with probrobly no more than 350 hp at the wheels, but eventually i will turn it up. The reason im asking is because ive searched and found some bad things about the GT3071r but i cant remember which trim and i cant seem to find it again. Any help appreciated thanks. Also the midsection badging says its a gt2835, is it still a GT3071r?

LoL That sucker will hit 350 without a problem if that's the same turbo. Compressor seems to match the same specs as what you gave.. If you can get this sucker for a good price Grab it.

Looks like it bolts right up VIA to your stock manifold. Spool should be ~ 4000-4300. Which is Pretty damn decent.

Of course you'll need to fab. some pipes for ur intake/hot pipe. You'll need a front mount if you do not already have one.. and a new fuel pump... etc...

You'll need an oil feed line as well. I'm not sure if the coolant lines will line up though. Only downside i can really think of. And that's just a Maybe.

Eh also check out if it uses the same bolt pattern for the exhaust ext./elbow.. Should be the same being that it uses the same T25 house design.

Thanks for responding, and i did find those posts but it never gets into how limited the power will be by using the T2 flange, so i dont know whether to buy this turbo or change manifolds and buy a T3 flange with external waste gate. Ive found at least 10 different post but all are inconclusinve and one even says this same turbo with the internal W/G has boost hold problems but dosnt say at what boost. I just need to know if the T2 flange will allow me to eventually get 400Hp without dying out high in the rev band and without bleeding precious boost?

Thank again since your the only one who actually helped, its tough being a newbie around here!

I think several people have had issues with the t2 version of this turbo. It is also considered to be mismatched.

If eventually looking for 400-450whp I would got with the 3071 T3 .63a/r version.

One thing to note though is many people are disappointed when they go with a bigger turbo and turn the boost down "for now". It just seems like some with the old gt2540r and others big t2 turbos were sorry after getting a bigger turbo and then running it at say 10-12psi.

I also think that most everyone pushing 400whp on a t2 turbo is going with a externally mounted gate and welding the internal shut. This helps with the flow limitations of the t2 flange.

Spool will be slower than a GT2871r and you will be limited to roughly 400whp because of the t2 flange. You may as well get a GT2871r IMO. Like Vitamin T said, weld an external gate flange on to the stock mani and weld the actuator flap on the turbo shut for maximum output on t2 turbines. I'd save for a top mount manifold and run a 3071r w/ a t3 flange if I were you though. Do it once, do it right...

thanks again.
