i've been staring at compressor maps for the past 45 minutes and my head hurts a bit so bear with me if this post is competely incohearant.

anyway, i just found out that the gt3071 comes in the t25 style flange. so it will bolt up. great.

then after looking at some copmressor maps it looks like its almost the same turbo. the efficency range is close to the same and everything. it would jsut take the gt30 abot 50-700 more rpm to hit full boost.

so i continue my research. i've read many diferent set-ups and several peope love the turbo(the gt30 that is) and state its great for drift drag blah blah.

my question is what is the real difference? please don't answer the obvious question and say the size. i want to know why this turbo, since it is the exact same price as the gt2871r, is not more popular. is it really alot less efficent on a botom mount set up?

You know what, i had a GT2871 about a year ago and loved it but now i have the GT3071. They both feel pretty much the same to me and both stayed at around 350hp. will be selling the 3071 soon to move up to top mount and 450hp, if you know anyone that's interested.hope that helps at all.

gt30 turbos can really come to life once its matched with good components like better flowing cams, solid lifters for high RPM capabilities. Obviously, if you are rolling on stock cams and compare GT2871r and GT30 series turbos, there will not be much of a difference. However if you have cams that have high lift and duration of 272 or more along with high flowing intake manifold, GT30 can really come to life.

does anyone know where exactly you can find the GT3071 for the same price as the GT2871?

3071R .63 (T3 housing) all the way. Puts out more than the 2871R .86 (T2 Housing) but will probably match the 2871R .82 (T3 Housing).

thats pretty much the answer i was looking for.

is it basically the same turbo then just with a larger compressor? sounds like it from what drifter said

btw, if you search enjuku's site the turbos are the same price, they jsut don't have the t25 flange so it isn't listed in the sr20det catagory.

T2 Housing becomes too restrictive when using a large turbo like the 3071R. Go Top Mount or just do the 2871R.
