Yesterday was a pretty terrible day for me. I'm driving along, getting on it like usual, running around 15psi when all of a sudden, the car falls on its face. I thought I had probably blown an intercooler pipe, but the car was running perfectly, even in the upper power band so I then assumed I'd blown a vaccume line.

When I got to where I could pull over and check it out, the turbo timer was keeping the car running and I had a look under the hood. There are no blown pipes, lines, or couplers, everything looked in order. Then it happened... The turbo timer cut off and the engine died like it should, but I could hear the bearing/s in my turbo whirring and it didn't sound pretty.

I have an oil pressure gauge and the oil pressure didn't drop, I wasn't putting a strain on the turbo with super high boost, theres plenty of oil and water in the system, so why did my turbo die? I've got to replace it, but I don't want to put another one on if the problem is going to happen again, and I'm not entirely sure that it wasn't just a defect in the turbo since everything it needs to work properly was in place.

I thought maybe it was possible that a particle of dirt or something got into the oil system, but the oil had been changed less than 2 months ago, I use Mobile 1 syn. oil and a Pure1 filter, and I've been running the same setup for almost a year.

Is it possible I just got a defective turbo, or is there something else I need to check. A $1000 turbo should last me alot longer than a year and 15,000 miles.

Hmmmm maybe the oil return lines got snaged on somthing or got cloged just a guess.

There is a good chance its is the oil feed line going to the turbo. I had a talk with a fellow who went through not one, but TWO turbos before he figured out that it was the problem with his car. Worth a check anyways.

Do you run a filter and/or water lines to the turbo? Not having one or the other or both leads to shortend turbo life.

i was right lol, i am guessing it overheated from no oil or lack of oil.i have a weird *** turbo oil cooled and also coolant cooled i think its odd anyway

Its a stock turbo replacement so it uses the stock lines, both OIL and WATER cooled. There is really no way for the oil return line to snag since it goes straight down from the bottom of the turbo to the block and is maybe 4" long.

I suppose it could be the feed line, but I don't know what about it would cause the problem, it is for certain not kinked anywhere.

I'd love to run an inline oil filter, I just don't see any way to do it without some major custom line work.

I read a lot about guys running in line filters on their turbos but that is mostly from people that do not have motors that came stock with turbos.

I think the oil supply line for the turbo is a direct feed from the post oil filter flow.
