hi,

i was planning to get an s15 turbo to replace the t25 on my redtop sr. its all stock right now except front mount. what injectors are you guys using? what are you using to tune it? ive heard some people just leave everything and let the ecu compesate for turbo... with no piggy back. i would problably be boosting around 9 or 10 pound because i still want it to be reliable... any input would be great. thanks.

my experience:

i ran my s15 turbo for about a year @ 17psi unknowingly (bad boost gauge) without a problem really. BUT, i would not recommend it to anyone. You're really on the edge of maxing out the injectors at that psi and the stock ecu can only do so much.

i finally got a power fc, larger injectors, maf, etc. so now all is good.

certain times when i was running untuned at wot, the car would do a pop (pause) pop (pause) pop, and then take off.

i can only assume this was due to lack of proper tune, maf and injectors.

i can imagine 10 psi is completely safe though on stock ecu

oh, btw, what's funny is that when i finally got the power fc, injectors and maf, while on the dyno on its first roughly untuned run, the engine made 280 wtq at 3800rpm.

your ecu is not going to compensate for modifications especially injectors because it wont be able to dump the correct amounts of fuel... the most important thing with a turbo motor is tune tune tune tune... especially if you want it to be reliable

ya, i was going to use the stock injectors. what should i use to tune it? i dont really want to buy a power fc just yet... how about like a lm1 wideband? what would be the best thing to use?

Your ECU options are standalones, piggy backs, and ROM Flashes to the ECU. I don't recommend piggy backs. They just always seem to give fits.

In my experience, I have foudn reflashes to be the best for reliability, but you don't get much in the way of tweaking and tuning unless you flash the ROM chip during dyno sessions.

And remember it's not the boost you're running that maxes out injectors and your MAF. it's the power. The MAF and injectors max out anywhere between 250 to 280 HP., so buy accordingly.

A Z32 MAF is always a safe upgrade for plenty of power headroom. And I used to recommend 555cc injectors for an S15 T28 setup, but in the past year or so, I'm starting to recommend 660 and up. My math wasn't giving headroom for the duty cycle of most injectors.
