How well does this turbo spool? I've been told, not sure how reliable, that I will have 500RPM difference from stock turbo in lag. Is this true?

I am running: CA18DETHKS top mount manifoldHKS 40mm WastegateHKS SSQV440cc InjectorsFMICmanual boost controller(for now)Jun light weight flywheelACT 6 puck clutch

What are your thoughts? If you have any other suggestions for turbo's, post up. I do lots of drifting and road course racing.

First off, welcome to NICO!

I would think you would have full boost right around 3500-3600rpm. Might wanna up your injectors too.

Last map I remember seeing, it was around 3800RPM that acheived full spool with a .64a/r compressor housing. Injectors are a little small, but just watch your AFRs on the dyno. I would personally like a little more headroom with a compressor like that. Speaking of, which A/R you plan on selecting?

You should come on hard about 3750rpm, but as the other's have said, I'd like to see AT LEAST a set of 550's on there, if not 660's.

What are you using for tuning?

.64 A/R housing is what I'm looking at, what do you mean by headroom? Tubonetics equivalent to the GT2871R, according to them would start to spool around 2500RPM. Does that sound about right?

Some of the questions I may ask, like the headroom one, may seem dumb but the engine is one part of the car that I am still working getting to know. So I do apologize.

drifting and road course. We have a small road coarse here with a short straight away, high second gear, 3rd if you want, but not really worth the shft. Theres lots of tight turns. I wish we had something bigger but gotta do with what we have, it's better then nothing.

Any suggestions on where I can get 550cc or greater injectors from for a reasonable price?

The power range I am looking for is 300-350 without loosing a lot of lower end turbo spool. This is the only turbo I have looked into so far, if you guys know of others that work great for the CA18 post them up and I will do research.

Here are some pictures of my car:

I think float is asking what ECU/FMU are you using......

I got some 550s from an evo 8 (or 9, can't remember) they actually flowed around 600. You can get them fairly cheap, check ebay.

For your power goal a GT2860r would suffice; you can get 300whp with proper tuning. If you want a little more ooomph get the disco potato (28rs). Both would have you boosting notably earlier than the 2871.

Headroom in his scenario means not buying something thats almost maxxed out from the get go, buy something that could be used with a bigger turbo in the future if need be.

I'm running a GT2871R 52T 0.64 on my CA. I now see full boost at around the 3600-3800 rpm range depending on the loading. Before I went back to the standard manual I was getting full boost just over 4000 with the stainless manifold that i had on there. With the right cams and head work these turbos will make 350 HP at the wheels on 98 pump fuel and they have made up around 375 WHP on E85.

My car is making 290 WHP and that is just with a slightly bigger intake cam (248 x 8.5) and some cam timing adjustments, but the cams are still a big restriction as these turbos need at least 260deg cams to get them working properly. The 290hp is on a standard bottom end which is why I haven't taken it any further and fitted bigger cams.

Here is a Build Thread for my car;http://www.nissansilvia.com/fo...93828

The most recent graph isn't on there;

"Max boost" is not an easy question to answer. i think i`ve heard somewhere that it should not be ran over 1.7 bar over a long time. With the .86 it works really well on 1.7 and 2 bar.A guy here made 543 hp @ flywheel on 1.7 bar with the .86.This was on ethanol.Link from "dragrace" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db3Z0feju2E

im not very good at reading those maps on the Garrett website lol. but basically i'll be using Poncams (256* 8.8mm) later on, and just want to brake into the 300whp range safely.
