ok - the time has come to select my turbo. Im not sure if i want to go with a 2530 or 2835 or 2871 or any one. it is for an rb20. i have FMIC, 440s, 300zx MAF, and will be getting some sort of EMS soon. (does anyomne know if AEM came out with an EMS for RB20. i know they were going to, but never heard much more on it) so any suggestions on which turbo to get? i want fast spool, but capable of around 400hp. when they do flow rates, is that whp or bhp? basically im looking for around 400 at the crank, i'd rather not have top get cams, so i can settle with 350 or so if i must. also, i would prefer internal wastegate, as i am on a budget and would rather keep my stock manifold and not have to drop more cash on a wastegate. If anyone has any input, i would appreciate it, and if you have driven a car with either of these turbos, please tell me what you did or didnt like about it. Thanks a million

Bump because I'm curious too... What do these turbos usually go for?

if you want to be a badass go with the "HKS" disco potato Im either gonna go with the disco potato or the T70 from http://www.ssautochrome.com yes i know is not from jdm land but oh well if there turbos are as bad as everyone says, or as bad as they "heard" i can buy and blow up about 4 of them to equal the cost of a jdm land turbo. And the disco potato has a nice exit for some 3 inch pipe off the turbine.

Spec wise, what are the differences between the 2530, 2835 and 2871? i know the 2530 is a spool monster and is good to 300ish rwhp right? does that mean the 2835 and 2871 will spool less quickly and be good to higher HP levels?

keep an eye out on ebay, i've seen some a few hks gt2530's go for awesome prices. That is, if you don't mind buying a used turbo. one just sold for $405

lol i know about those used turbos, my bro picked up a gt2510 off of ebay for $250 from a guy in japan off his r32 gtst so it bolted up perfectly, w/ the included downpipe and lines (steal if you ask me). He then hit a 12.8 on some slicks w/ stock everything. i thought for 250 you're buying a POS but it worked out... he's lucky like that though.

The 48 trim GT2871 is close to the hks 2530's specs but with a bigger comp wheel, and the 3071 is very close to the hks 2835. If you want 400hp out of a 20... I think the 56 trim 2871 or the 3071 is the money ticket... also far less $ when compared to the similar HKS 2835.

GT2871 - Turbine-Wheel: 53.85mm w/ 76 trim-Housing: .86 ar or .64

Compressor-Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 or 48 trim-Housing: .60 ar

GT3071 - Turbine-Wheel: 60mm w/ 84 trim-Housing: .63 ar, .82 ar, 1.06 ar

Compressor-Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 trim-Housing: .50 ar

HKS2530 - COMPRESSOR:-Wheel- 63 Trim - 47.7 Inducer / 60.1 Major-Housing- 60 Inlet / 50 Outlet - 0.60 A/RTURBINE:-Wheel- 76 Trim - 53.8 Major / 47.0 Exducer-Housing- GT25/T3 inlets / Internal GT25/Skyline Type oulets - 0.64 A/R

HKS2835 - COMPRESSOR:-Wheel- 56 Trim - 53.1 Inducer / 71.1 Major-Housing- 100 Inlet / 50 Outlet - 0.50 A/RTURBINE:-Wheel- 90 Trim - 56.5 Major / 53.6 Exducer-Housing- GT25 inlet / Outlet spec:Internal GT28 90 Trim; 0.86 A/RExternal GT30; 0.61, 0.73, 0.87, 1.01, 1.12 A/R

The only thing to note is that the Garrett turbos can't come in T3 turbine inlets with internal gates (unless it's custom)...
