There isn't anything that's blatantly wrong with modding a Versa. It's when you're either trying to

a) Turn the Versa into some 350whp track star.

b) Make a car that looks like either Russianbull's or Adola's Versa/Tiida.

It's all up to you to mod a Versa but in reality, by the time you get done with it, you might as well have spent almost enough money to buy a V6 Altima Coupe and roll around in a much faster, smoother, and better looking ride. But you put $2000 18" bronze wheels on a Versa, paint it two-tone, and throw on every little mod possible while still never seeing 150 HP.

A few mods are cool but when you go to the extent of Russian or Adola of putting that much damn money into an econocar... I just find it a waste. Whatever makes you happy though. Maybe I should go get a Kia Rio and lower it on new rims and projector headlights. No different.

I'm pretty much right on with what Red Devil said.

i used to think it would be kind of pointless to do any mods to a versa, but after looking around online at the different things people have done to theirs i definitely have some plans for mine.not trying to make it any faster but i think window tints, new wheels, even lowering and body kits make the car look a lot nicer.

im planning on new rims and a back half tint in the near future.

Ignorance is bliss... that's a great way to approach life.

If you want the form factor of a Versa but want to mod for performance, take a look at Suzuki's SX4 and what one of the top EVO tuners in the country has to offer (http://www.roadracemotorsports.com/). Perhaps then you won't have to deal with us "grumpy old men" who have been there, done it and have the wrecked bank accounts to prove it.

Indeed, I must have hit a nerve in the other thread. I was asking in all seriousness but I understand their dismissive responses.

Except there's only been two Versas with the complete turbo kit. There are currently no Versa's with a turbo kit. The first was the Fox Marketing Versa, which has since been parted out. The other was 1 members on this forum, although he used the same turbo from the Fox Marketing Versa, that he bought off Fox Marketing.

That 2nd Versa has since had the turbo kit removed because it caused transmission problems. FYI, before you go saying.....what was it......"iv seen some sick versas with full turbo kits. there dope as phuck.", do some research.

And define "Prove" because I'll never see the reason to spend so much money on an econo car. That's awesome, you got the V to go 220mph on the back stretch, increased the HP to 500, got a Mr. Coffee installed inside and a LightBrite installed in your glove compartment for added ambient light for about $30k......on a $15k - $20k vehicle. WOO HOO! I wish I had money to blow on nonsense like that.

I'm all for increasing the looks of the car (ie, rims, tires, tint, lowering) but to throw money at a platform that just isn't suited for all this modding for speed and power is just stupid. I love my Versa, but you can polish crap and put it in a nice shiny box...but it's still crap. (I'm not calling the V crap...just couldn't think of another analogy at the moment).

Now taking the money you spent on the V and the additional you would have spent to mod it and buying a stock Z that would out perform anything you could ever do to the V...that makes sense.

thats not the point... why buy something that every one and there mom likes to mod, when you can have something that is a bit more challenging? dont get me wrong i would love to own a new Z but i would much rather own something that not to many people have or know about...

So the point is to waste money trying to make a car do something it has no chance at doing well?

Especially when the thread starter admitted having difficulty making payments in past posts. You'd think it'd make more sense to conserve what little money he has.

Nothing wrong with that. It's your money after all. However, what you described isn't the Versa. If your stated goal is true, there isn't a whole lot you can do with the Versa beyond the superficial. Seriously, how many times have we all lamented over the lack of after market support?

The Suzuki SX4 crossover I mentioned previously has way more support. Why is that? is it because Suzuki pushed for it? So did Nissan. The agency I work for even had a short-lived campaign with two guys running a race prep'ed Versa (I can't remember their names). We even had the car parked inside the office for inspiration.

If more after market support materializes, that could change. Let's hope the cube, having the same engine, make it possible. Modding is fine, but one has to be realistic about it. Theoretically, it's possible to mod a Versa to have the performance of a Z (if you dump a ton of money on it). But, the basic law of modding is that the more you mod for performance, you lose more and more of the car's original character and functionality. And that's exactly what the "grumpy old men" are saying. The more you do to the Versa... it possesses less and less of the traits you [hopefully] bought it for: space, economy and practicality. And with the cost of the Versa + the cost it takes to get that kind of performance, in the end you could've bought a brand new Z and then some.

Wrong tool for the job. Can you imagine Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda rider) trying to win the MotoGP championship starting with a 150cc scooter?

WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!! lol

Bottom line, People can do and will do whatever the F**K they want to do with their cars, jsut let them be, but i gotta agree with feloniousmonk, sometimes you just gotta be REALISTIC!

Yes i mod my car, but only to make it look better, not "faster"

And i gotta agree, whoever tries to convert their versa into a gtr or wrx or somethin similar is a stupid idea. I mean i do remember that one guy who bought the fox marketing turbo and what happened? Didnt the cars' engine blow up?

I respect ppls modding their versas or any other car,no harm in that, but theres a LINE...and when you pass that line, your stupid and your just hurting the poor car.

Im done.

You can fill your pool with sand instead of water and try to swim. That's more challenging too, but why would you do it?

The other thing some of our young Versa modders should be aware of is if and when you try to trade or sell the Versa, you're going to really limit yourself to a narrow field of buyers.

Installing all those mods takes away from the primary purpose-being an economical car. Lowering a car, using short profile tires is going to give it a harsher ride. Your average buyer isn't going to want that.

Or crazy paint schemes, overpriced wheels, carbon fiber hoods and yikes...high performance "grounding kits." They're not going to pay for those either. Well, maybe the exception of another teen who's ignorant enough to believe the Versa is a "sleeper" car.

I'm not trying to rain on the modification parade here. Some of the wheels look good. Upgrading the stereo. OK, open up the intake and exhaust a bit and let it breath some more.

But crikee, what's next...cowl induction? Pretty soon some guy will be offering some huge copper wires claiming they can ground electricity quicker so the ECM's perform better. Ah, too late...

So in the end I believe all the "grumpy old men" (although I'm only 29) all agree that looks are fine to a point..but performance you'll never get and is just stupid to do on a V.

I think it can be all summed up with a line from the great Kirk Lazarus, "You never go full retard."
