grrr i was having such a good day, on my way home from work i decided to stop at mcdonalds for a quick bite to eat.

well i'm sittin in the drive through and i pull forward and notice this lil white puff come out from under my hood. first thought oh s*** just what i need. i look down the temp needle slowly starts creeping up. i have NEVER seen the needle get above the half way point until tonight. i managed to get the car home, only live a couple blocks from where i was. another thing that bothers me is the damn fan never kicked in to help cool things down. i turned the heater on full blast to help slow the progression.

grrr this is the first major screw up i have had with the car.....*grumbles more*

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me last year, but I was on the highway. Fortunately it happened right before my exit and I was able to pull off alongside the ramp. The engine died and steam was pouring out. Anti-freeze was blown all over the engine bay. I was real lucky that it didn't die on the highway - could have been road kill real easy with all the semis barreling along at 80mph. There's no shoulder along that stretch to pull over on.

Anyway, a new radiator, a rebuilt head and 4 weeks later it was as good as new ;) . Hope your damage is a lot less serious than mine was!

It's possible that you popped a small coolant line or that the radiator cap is no bueno... check it out.

well i just got in from me and my mechanic looking at the car and once we got some water in and got the system re preasurised we found a damn pin hole leak that is just pouring the water out. so it looks like i will need a new radiator.

and of course i'm freakin broke at the moment.

if you don't have money and it's a pin size hole.... you can get a radiator fix stuff..

it comes in a bottle with like metal flakes..

all you do is pour that stuff in the rad and that's it.

what it does is the metal flakes will melt in to the hole and patch it when the rad get's hot and it will stop the leak

works great for a while.. I did that to my dad's rad adn it worked good for like 2 years...

ok correction all we could see was a very small pin hole that was leaking this was actually the END of a 3 inch crack that was covered by the foam at the top of the radiatior between it and the support.

this is on the plastic peice at the top of the radiator. i really don't like the idea of the sealants that you put into the system to try and close up the crack from the inside (don't know if it would even work on something this large. is there a way to seal this from the outside for the short term? or does someone in the portland area have a good radiator that they want to sell for cheap? i'd like to get my car back on the road asap.
