Ok, so I have been discouraged lately by the severe lack for '95+ 240sx SEs in California that are manual and under $6500, so I started looking at the older '91-'93 s13 hatches, thinking maybe with the money I save I could slap on a Silvia front end and have a truly rare Sileighty... Problem is, after upgrading stuff to what I would want on the old s13, I end up with a car that is about 3 years older and most likely has very high miles on it for only slightly less (it would probably cost me $4500-5000 to get it up to par just in basic parts and the price of the car itself) than I would pay for the s14. My question is, should I just stick it out and look for that ever-elusive perfect s14, or should I cave and buy the old s13 and create a Sileighty, while retaining a little more cash (to put towards college, rent, food) and uniqueness, yet having an older and slightly more liable to break down vehicle. I plan on using the car mostly as a daily driver as I am not a big fan of dragging and there aren't really any places where I can drift without severe consequences. My main concerns are comfort, reliability, style, and the ability to hang with my friends when driving around (they drive stuff like Celicas and Preludes). What do you guys think? I know I've asked this question before in many forms, but I like to hear what everyone else says :D Thanks.

Well, I like the s13 looks better...but then again my best friend wants an S14 badly. I think you should hold out for the S14 because it's obvious you really want it and I think that you'd be happier in the long run if you just waited until you got what you really wanted.

nobody has opinions any more, bah! This is driving me nuts! Sileighty or 95 s14? AHHH!!

Ok, maybe someone can help me with this part of my decision. I have never driven a 240:( so is it true that the newer ones are more comfortable? I was thinking of getting some knock-off racing seats if i did a sileighty so I could have nicer seats. Would this help since those old seats seem to cause trouble? As my daily driver am I going to be better off just sticking it out for an s14 or will the s13 do just fine?

I need to go argue with myself some more until I can decide which car to buy...

Well as far as comfort is concered. They normally make newer cars more comfy.

My only dilema is I like the slanted headlights on the s14 but all those are still at least 7k here in AZ. If I have to buy one with the rounded lights I will just convert to an S15 front end.

See that's the prob, I don't know what I want! :rolleyes I mean the s14 looks so very nice, but the sileighty is sweet too! I am so indecisive... Do they offer therapy on decision making? I may need to enroll.:thinker Or, I could just buy both

thought about the silvia coupe, not a big fan of the s13 coupe though (except Jerome's S13 which is entirely awesome). At least I have been able to make that decision!

OR, you could test drive a NICO member's Q45... You might change your mind completely. :D

I actually thought about a Q45, they look halfway decent and I have heard nothing but praise from all you old fogies who drive them, but the bottom line is I don't want a luxury car. I'm a 19 year old male with a hankerin' for a really fast sports car that will show everyone how masculine I am because I drive a little tiny car with bad gas mileage and that breaks down frequently, but I can't afford one, so I want a little car to mess around with and have fun in. I also want a manual.

Maybe I'll get a Q when I'm 500+ years old like you and Fred and need to pimp around in style :D

Dude, hold out for what you want. I had a hell of a time finding my S14, and well, I now have it. I literally searched for about 8 months trying to find a really nice one at a really nice price. My standards lowered bit by bit, but finally I found what I was looking for, My 95 240sx. I wanted it black, w/ sunroof, 5spd, and VLSD. I found it, but it was a base model, had 173k miles on it, and had a little bit of problems. BUt I got it for $3300. I truly am very happy that I finally found it, because I was ready to buy anything in my price range(S13, RX7, MR2, Miata, Z31, S12, AWD tubro DSM, AWD Subaru). Nissan runs through my veins though. I couldn't get any other manufacturer. Well...I hope this kinda inspires you figure out what you wanna do.

that does help.. I found a riced out auto s14 (nonSE) for $3000, but I am not that desperate. 8 months though? Damn! I don't know if I can hold out that long, but my standards are slowly slipping :(

i think we figured out a few months ago that a lot of the Q owners are not old fogies. there are quite a few in their 20's and some in their teens.

its called a joke, take it easy :)

like I said, I'm not looking for a luxury car, otherwise I would be looking at Q's and old SC400's right now.

dude i like my s13 seats i think they are quite comfortable. i say go for the s13 cheaper, lighter, more fun to drive IMO. and about reliability any car with 177,000 miles or whatever it may be will have problems ive seen s14's with this much and more. you can find low milage s13's just make sure the odometer works.

My girlfriend looked at the seats in my S13 and said "Can you get some new ones that are pretty and comfortable?" She doesnt want to sit in it until there are new seats there...well she gets to deal with it anyway and if it means that much, she can buy me new seats :D

I look on autotrader every day with a 300 mile search radius from San Diego. I see plenty of 5spds, but no SEs that are also manual and in my price range :(

Click on this

or

This one is a bit ƒucked up, but take a look though..

or

This one is a little expensive, but I'm sure you could talk it down.

That top blue one is pretty kool.. Except the hubcaps, but a nice set of TE-37s could change all that.

I didn't know that... I'll check it out. Thanks.

Holistic-I was debating checking out that first one, but the sucky wheels deterred me.The second one is clearly killed, needs at least $2000 put in it.The third is nice, but not an SE. I wasnt an SE for the 5lug wheel pattern mostly (too expensive to convert to), but I also like the white face gagues, spoilers, and slightly different looking seats :)

If summer rolls around and I haven't found an SE I'll probably just cave and buy a normal one and stick some decent rims on it.
