Alright, so as of late Ive been getting a annoying rattle sound coming from what I think to be the front end suspension. Ive tried spraying lubricant/silicone spray down onto the strut mounts from under the hood, but this didn't help.

If I hit uneven roads, dips, bumps, etc; I get a rattling sound coming from the front of my car. It doesn't matter really what Speed or RPM I am in, it still does it.

The best way I can explain the sound is; Marbles in a can rattling around but just a little more distinct then that.

also, I would like to get my exhaust redone as It is in poor shape.. If I bought a Y-Pipe and Aftermarket Muffler, can a exhaust shop complete the rest for me?

Thanks..

You're probably correct in your guess that it's related to suspension.

Try bouncing the nose of the car up and down while the car is parked and listening to see if you can hear the sound.

My guess is sway bar end links or tie rods.

Here's another possibility. If you exhaust is in bad shape... then it might just be the exhaust making the noise, maybe a bracket scraping something, I'm thinking more along the lines of a heat shield or flex section that is broken. You may want to get it checked out.

Yes, Ive already had issues with the exhaust heat shield. I had the shield rewelded back in the first month of owning the car. The welds since then have failed and the part was hanging off my exhaust, so I removed it. There is still one side intact on the right side of the pipe. I occasionally hear the exhaust moving around and bumping something.

Ive got a custom exhaust shop about 5 minutes down the road, I wanna try and get them to install a Budget Y and complete the rest of the system with custom work. No clue on prices, I know they're mennonites but the shop is huge and they have some high tech equipment.

This rattling sound is defintley from the front, I thought about removing my FSTB and seeing If it still does it; Don't know if this would help as this was the only thing Ive done to the suspension up front.

I do remember when I had it inspected last that my mechanic said something about the "Strut Bushings" he then went into detail about how replacing struts is a PITA and $$$

Thanks guys..

Minister - I will have to go get parked on some level ground and try to duplicate the sound, but Ive only heard it while cruising around. These roads in Pennsylvania are nasty

If you have the car in park while running, turn the steering wheel side to side. If it makes the sound while you;re sitiing still, it's most likely the strut bearings.

As for it being a PITA, someone who knows what they're doing could have it done in a matter of a couple hours.

I had all 4 springs replaced and my rear struts in maybe 2 hours (probably less) including the alignment.

Alright, well I don't have to work this weekend so hopefully I can look over the front suspension. I have a Hayne's manual, so I should be able to use that as a guideline on where to look specifically.

What should I be looking for in particular; Im not too car savvy but Im trying to save money instead of letting a shop have at it.

Im also thinking something is funny because I had an alignment done last month and It still pulls to the right but not as bad as before I had the alignment done. Tires were rotated also before alignment

I had a problem VERY similar to your sound.

Any time I hit a bump or something my suspension would rattle. I was so confused as to what it was.

It turned out that some how the nut on top of my strut tower came loose and let my shock bounce freely.

I don't know how the 4th gens have them for sure...but my 3rd gen just has a plastic cap on top of the strut. Pull that off and push down on the front of your car. If the car moves but that nut pops up...then tighten that down by having someone push down on the car and you tighten the nut.

That SHOULD get rid of the noise (if in fact thats what it is).

Good luck!!

Look at you front sway bar links. I had a noise like that and both where bad. They are like 30 bucks at a part store and not too bad to put on your self

Yeah, I am going to pull the front tires off the car tomarrow hopefully and look around at some things.

I now have another issue, the car was recently aligned and the tires were rotated before I brought it in for the alignment.

I went on a good cruise last night and started to hear a loud rubbing noise coming from the passenger front wheel well when making a right turn. I pull over at Wawa and get out of the car and check things out, didn't notice any flat tires. I get back in the car with it in Park and I move the wheel from center all the way to the right and I can duplicate the sound, the tire is making contact with the rear end of the passenger front wheel well and where the contact patch and sidewall of the tire meet. I can see where it is making contact, and the tire shows sign of this as well. This only happens on the passenger front, nothing coming from the drivers side when moving the wheels the other way.

About 3 months ago before I even had it aligned, I caught some black ice and hit a curb on the right side front.. Everything was fine, I didnt notice any changes. Had the car aligned last month, they did the alignment without a problem.

Now, Im having this tire rub.. I hope this can help me get some more ideas on this

Thanks guys

also, I have found the rattling sound to be the hood rattle that there was a TSB for awhile back. I guess It was that loose to cause a nasty rolling rattling noise.

I solved this by turning the bump stops CCW and shutting the hood again took a little more effort and now there is only a fraction of play when pushing down right above the latch.

Took it out, got it up to speeds of 60MPH at the most, ran on some uneven bumpy roads and I didn't hear a single rattle. I just hear the stiff sounds from the suspension.. My buddy said damn, your suspension is tight.. I guess from the sound it makes riding over bumps
