Someone please tell me there is an easy way! Someone please tell me its ok! I am trying to fix the blown gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbo....But OOOOOH NOOO! the brilliant engeners at nissan have this thick metal flange that covers about 1/4 of the nut and almost lays against it. I cant get a wrench on it , or a ratchet.... I dont want to have to disconnect the whole exhaust manifold since I have had bad experiances breaking studs almost everytime I do this....Is ther an anaswer or a clue , or maybe an Idea or two. Please relay without delay so that I can drive my car today. :angryfire

i dunno if this helps, but between my stock SR manifold and turbo there was a tab of metal laying against one side of each of the 4 nuts. Basically i just took a flat head screw driver and pryed each of the tabs down flat so i could get to the 13mm nuts. I hope you understand what im saying, and hopefully its the same thing.

Yup, the CA is setup the same way. Its to keep the nuts from loosening up.

Getting to the back nuts, closest to the block is a PITA. Your better off taking the manifold off. It takes like 5 minutes.

Yeah its exactly the same. I just didnt want to dicaonnect the oil and coolant lines. And i kinda figured those were there to keep the bolts from loosening up, but it seems like that is what they did . Thanks guys!

Did you ever try to get the manifold off (with the CA in the car), if so please tell me how to do it in 5 minutes. :)

Yes.

It takes a minute with airtools ;)

But with hand tools, the top 4 bolts are a piece of cake to get to.The first bottom 2 are also easy to get to with an extension. The other 2 behind the turbo I use an open end wrench, 3 turns and theyre loose enough to remove with my fingers.

3 bolts hold the downpipe to the turbo. Easy. Then the oil line and coolant lines.

I removed my coolant lines completely the first time I took my turbo out. So I just remove the oil lines everytime from there after.

Penetrating oil (not WD-40) works wonders on exhaust bolts. Spray em before you start working on them and let them sit for 15 min. or so. That should help.

Because the turbo was dying and oil seals were leaking, I didnt want oil to mix with the coolant.

The next turbo im getting will only use the oil lines anyway.
