Hey there! I have always been a car enthusiast, I love everything about cars, and I recently dumped my Porsche 944 and decided to adopt a 300ZX for $4700, it is my first Nissan, my first car with some real pick up, and it feels so natural to let the back kick out a little bit at intersections when making turns. I love the car, and I have come here in search of some basic information, knowledge, and insight into the life of owning a Z long term.

My main questions are:
How long do these usually last for when maintained properly?
What does *proper* maintenance consist of?
What are things I should be watching out for?
And what are some cool, easy, basic mods that someone who is mechanically inclined can do on one's own to get the most out of this car?

And let me start off by saying thank you to everyone in advance who responds!
(You can see my old Porsche in the photo haha)

:welcome: to NICO!

That's a sweet looking Z! I'd start out with changing all of the fluids. If you're doing that yourself - the time spent under the car will help you find problem areas. Nissans will pretty much go forever with OCD level maintenance.

I'm sure the Z guys will chime in more, but that's where I'd start with it.

Well thanks for the welcome! Lemme give you my car history real quick, says alot about me.
1999 Dodge Intrepid @ 18 years old
1992 Buick Le Sabre (died on way home from dealership)
1992 Volvo 940 Turbo (Still running, brother now owns)
1984 Porsche 944 NA
1990 Nissan 300ZX @ 21 years old and just moved out.

As for the 300, the guy I bought it from flips 300's for a living, and has another one already, white, 92, with back seats haha!
But I also brought a mechanic with me to buy it, no leaks, no moisture, the engine bay is dry, along with the underneath.
Oil was recently changed.
Needs belts changed, however that im doing next monday, including timing belt.

However that being said, 4700$ for a car that drives like butter. No effort to drive, unlike the Porsche.
Loving the short throw clutch as well!

Here's the rest of the exterior, it was sprayed with spray paint, very well I may add. However Im gonna give it a coat of neon orange and probably put on a carbon fiber hood, or spray the hood black.

Oh, and according to my wife, growing up and buying a Z are mutually exclusive!
