Where did you ground your amp in your 240sx? The amp is fine because it just came out my frinds car. All the wires are ok too, I just cant get it to connect to anything when i try to ground it.

I have an S13 coupe. I took out the third brake light bracket, sanded down some of the paint underneath, and grounded it there. No alternator whine.

All you need to do is find (or make) a spot of bare metal to bolt the ground cable to. If you find that you have alternator whine, run the ground cable from the radio to the back of the car in the same place you grounded your amplifier to.

Best to ground amp on a lower, solid part of the body/chassis to have the lowest resistance.

I ususally use a back seat seatbelt mount. Pull the bolt, sand the metal and I use a copper connector on the ground wire for solid contact (tho gold would probably be better as it is a better conductor than copper).

Nit picking here but gold IS NOT a better conductor than copper, it just doesn't corrode over time. The gold plating on everything is so thin anyway it's pretty much a non issue.

You are correct. Of course, gold will be a better conductor over time assuming the copper corrodes (which is what I meant to say). Silver is the best, followed by copper, gold then aluminum (from a resistance perspective).

Just pick a place that is solid, clean the paint off with a wire brush on a drill or sandpaper, and use a few self-tapping screws. Make sure the panel is grounded an not just seam sealed to the others.

i am not sure what we are talking about as far as a coupe or a hatch but depending on where you are going to be putting you amp i would run it onto the side where your oem scissor jack is held or inside of your strut tower is another good spot
