Ground wire?

Hello I am kinda new to Zs I have a 1985 z31 n/a
This might be a stupid question but there is what looks like a ground wire that connects to the diff. what is it for? thanks in advance for any insight

Yup, it's a bonding wire. It prevents static buildup. Diff is rubber isolated and needs external bonding. This static charge can cause galvanic corrosion.
