if it is cutting at high volumes, it may not be a ground issue, but if it is, make sure you sand away any paint and primer and that you are grounding the wire to bare metal, otherwise you may still get ground, but there will be more resistance. Your ground wire should be the same size or larger than your power wire also, so make sure that it is, and should not be more than 1 ft. in length.

BUT if your amp is going into protection, that could mean that you are clipping, and have your gain set to high. The reason for the amp doing this is so that you do not end up burning it up. Give me some more info on the amp, and I will be able to help you further, what is this amp running, and def. a model number.

no, you don't necesarily need more power, that sub is rated at 750 RMS, so all you need is an amp rated to put out 750 RMS, NOT PEAK. But are you sure you have a 600 watt amp?? If so you must have an older model, because the monos I know kicker has out right now are 650 for the SX, and 750 for the ZX series. what is the model of the amp you have? If you are still clipping and you have sanded the frame, then you are overpowering your amp, and it is cutting off before you blow it. The reason is because you know that sub can hit, and you are increasing the volume until you clip it out. What headunit are you running? the stocker? either way do this. Turn down all your adjustments on your amp ALL THE WAY, then increase your headunit volume to 80% of the maximum volume (i.e. if your Headunit only goes to 40, turn your volume up to 32) then SLOWLY start turning up the gain on your amp until it starts to distort. At this point back down on your gain a tad, and you can then tweak your low pass, and other adjustments. Hope this helps.

its an older amp, i got it about 3 years ago, it still works fine though, i just took it out of my girlfriends car, i tried turning the gain all the way down like you said...it does seem to help but it just doesnt seem like its hitting as hard as it should. should i just go out and get a lower powered 12(maybe like a 400 watt nominal 1000 watt max)? think it will sound better?

why not just buy the new ZX750.1, that will handle the L7 nicely. It is not going to hit if you do not have the proper amp.
