so an exady stage 2 clutch came with my sr swap on my s13 and it shifted and drove fine for about 2-3 weeks now when i try and shift with the revs high it will grind. so i have to granny shift and let the revs go down before i can shift without grinding. i repalced both slave and master cylenders before the swap. so idk what the problem could be?

you have a ka trans..... that is the problem... only way to prevent this is convert to a z32 trans

yep... sounds like the transmission's showing its age. Synchos are probably wearing out... unfortunately nothing lasts forever.

When was the last time you did a transmission oil change? Use synchromesh?

my transmission does this as well only in second gear though

its a syncro, probably should just replace the transmission, good transmission fluid will help but it dosnt undo damage from time

you can try adjusting your pedal but if its only in select gears its not clutch related. It would have to do it in every gear to think it had something to do with release or actuation.

So should I just rebuild the transmission, use my sohc transmission or buy a new transmission?

it sounds like your synchronizers are worn and the side gears arent slowing down the gear enough so that your grinding

This.

Try to avoid grinding as much as possible. You might have to start double clutching at those high revs.

IMHO its not worth rebuilding an s-chassis trans. use the sohc one or just buy another trans...

fyi. the only difference between the ka and sr transmissions is the bellhousing.

the synchros are known to go out... i have only 2 240's that dont grind. both are low mileage transmissions for an sr... one is mine the other is my roommates... every other 240 i have driven grinds at some point in 2nd or 3rd gear

Yeah thats your syncros

Just for the record "blipping" and "double clutching" are used for downshifting only. If you blip the throttle or double clutch on an upshift you're working against yourself because you're increasing the speed of the input shaft when it needs to be slowing down, ie the RPM's drop when you shift to a higher gear. For downshifting these techniques are used to match the speed of the engine/input shaft to the wheels/output shaft, because the RPM's increase when you shift to a lower gear, get the picture?

What's the Syncromesh do exactly?
Sorry to steal the tread, but im trying to figure out why my friend's automatic transmission doesnt shift sometimes. Sometimes it will just rev without shifting when it's supposed to, what are some god additives for it?
Again, sorry for the TJ, I just don't want to make another topic :\

Good news sorta..Someone help me understand this synchro thing again.

Driving a little bit more, Ive found some tricks to my 3rd gear grind. I mentioned going to second before first to prevent grinding going back into first. now if i go to N back to 2, then 3rd(2nd, N, 2nd, 3rd), I wont grind. Unlike going in 2nd before going into first, i can go right into third without doubling second all the rest of the drive like the problem is fixed  So is the third gear synchro getting out of line, and by doubling 2nd, im putting them back in line??? forever?? Weird.

Still going to try some amsoil. what can i expect then?

id check your pilot bushing. i swaped auto to manual . and cause i listend to some idiot i didnt replace my pilot bushing. now youll get some noise that sounds like clutch chatter. then when you engage the clutch it stops. id check that. could be that your imput shaft has allot of play causing your clutch disk to move with it. cause i would grind second n third. put a manual one in and walla. no more grind. super old transmission to. good luck brother
