it doesn't happen all the time but every now and then it'll start to crank, pause and grind for a second then fire up. it's not the starter, it's brand new and tested, i'm 99% sure it's not the flywheel. i had this problem before and after i installed a new light weight flywheel.so what else could it be? thanks~ben

how long is the grind, and is it more of a "buzzy" grind or a "rumble" grind

please. could it be in the motor, crank bearings or something? this grinding is the whole reason i started fixing and replacing almost everything and it's still there.

Is the pause you reffer to a complete stop in cranking? If so I would have a look at battery cable security to the battery and the other ends as well, may be a loose connection somewhere. I assume the engine does start though?
