Is this normal???...

It seems that under extremely forceful shifting my gear box likes to grind just a little going into 3rd gear. (Yes the clutch is all the way down). It only happens durning extremely forceful shifting, and just a quick 1/2 second grind.

If i just give it "up pressure" and let it go into gear on its own (takes about a 1/2 second longer to shift) I get no probs.

It IS an 03 Tranny... I've heard some have had probs with em ... but am wondering if it's just me forcing the gears?

Before this I drove smaller engine turbo cars which seemed like I could throw the gear box into any gear practically breacking the shift knob with know complaining from the car. Thought this might be a result of a stiffer clutch / heavier fly wheel / more torque in the Z and all that good stuff...

thanks!!!

Had a friend take the car out... he knew a little more than me about what was going on. Seems that what I was experiencing is normal and its not really "grinding" gears

If it isn't normal, then it may be your synchronizers.

My tranny has been giving me a bit of a problem in going into 2nd gear. When I am shifting @ 5500rpm+ then it wants to grind. I took it to the dealer and they told me that they couldn't do anything about it because it was "speed shifting". I was like WTF? any time you are shifting close to redline then you are going to be shifting fast.

The mgr said that I had plenty of warrante left and if it gets worse then come back. So I'll see whats up in a month or so.

I'd take it in to get looked at. I had a grind into 3rd gear anytime I shifted over 3500rpm. Turned out the synchro was shot and I got a new tranny and clutch, free of charge. Have 10k miles on the new tranny and its great.

Nissan dealers are a joke. Another critical reason the GTR needs to be sold as an Infiniti.

They will only fix something if its present or basically broken.

I would have to disagree. I took my 350 in on a Monday morning at 11am and told them about the grind. They drove it, said they would replace the tranny, AND clutch just in case. They would call when its done.

I expected to wait 2 weeks or so...

Tuesday at 1PM I got a call. We had your tranny overnighted and its already installed. Sure enough. Third gear grind was gone and you could feel the clutch was brand new.

I would say 26 hours turnaround on a FREE transmission job is pretty darned good.

I'm glad to hear you had a decent experience, or I should say glad the dealer did their job.

The bottom line is my tranny grinds under hard pressure, the car idles lumpy with the AC off, the dealer wont fix any of that because its not present normally, or as another member say its when you are fast shifting

Nissan dealers are a joke. Even if Infiniti dealers are as bad, would you want to not even be offered a rental car when u drop off your 60-70k GTR?

I don't think so.

Bottom line is 90% of people are completely flustered with Nissan dealers service of the 350z.

So be glad you got good service, but it isn't normal.

Just ask people who are still going through sets of tires in 5,000 miles due to feathering, only to be told they couldnt even fix it if they paid for it!

LOL

What the hell are you talking about?

I dropped off my 5k J30 and they gave me an 04 g35 sedan for 2 weeks no charge.

Sriously, my dealer gives me great servie and turnaround. Of cours,e I paid the extra for nissan's "gold" warranty or whatever, so they pay rental and towing, etc if it's going to take over a day. But still, the guys at my dealer have been great at taking care of little stuff...

If my tranny grind gets worse, I'll be back :p

There are a few Nissan dealerships in my area. Some are better than others. I think it comes down to each dealership.

Yea, that was exactly my point. Allow me to reword it. Even if Infiniti dealers offer the same level of service as the Nissan dealer, which is to say none, Infiniti would still be much better due to the fact you receive another Infiniti to drive.

BTW That Nissan gold warranty of yours isn't from Nissan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been told by two service advisors that the factorys dont directly offer those, the dealers do.

Oh and I have two family members with BMWs, can you believe they get rental cars?

When my sister took in her X5 she received a KIA.. LOL

When my mom dropped off her 325i she gets to pick a rental car, which the base one is a mazda 6 level... not bad overall, but still

Ask the avg M45 driver if they would appreciate not receiving an Infiniti to drive.

went to my Nissan dealership this morning and described that I may be having tranny issues... they didn't event look at my car or ask any questions after I told them it was grinding in 3rd at higher RPMs... they just ordered me a new tranny and are putting it on under warrenty this/next week... can't ask for more than that

R Nissan installed my new transmission AND clutch on Saturday... all under warranty NO HASSLES

Fixed all of my grinding issues, and the new clutch is like a new car.
