I have a 1989 240 sx

The transmission fluid was just flushed (it was dark dark brown) But I think the guy put in synthetic when I asked them not to.

Anyways - The car makes a grinding sound when I go into park. (Makes you cringe when you hear it)

Doesn't happen R->N D->N only R->P

Ideas? - Bad trans fluid? Raw transmission gears(i.e toasted use it till it dies completely?)

Maybe I'll just go try to fix it

Any ideas?

Is this an A/T or a manual?

The ATF being dark brown is not a good sign; it's an indication of possible overheating of the clutch pack. Smell the ATF; if it has a burnt smell, then the burning of the clutch pack is just about a given.

Unfortunately I no longer have any of the old transmission fluid since I had the system flushed with 14litres of new stuff.

The more I drive it the better it feels.

The last thing I was considering was taking off the catch plate and cleaning out all the old filings and changing the filter.

But for now... I will wait for it to warm up.
