Grinding Noises

Hi am hearing grinding noises when my car is on (97 Maxima), it sounds like metal grinding on metal. Last night i lifted the hood the noise is coming from where the belt is located.? Any answers ..?? thanks

Most likely the Idler Pulley (bearing failure) near the alternator. You can confirm that by mechanic's stethoscope or improvised tool like a long screwdriver (do not poke on moving components - personal injury and/or equipment damage possible).
