I am actually very sure that this is my new shock making the sounds as it only occurs when i make turns. It sounds like metal on metal, somewhat like a creaking sound. As my friend was was hammering the mounting plate (which was bent so it wouldn't go through), a bolt fell out. We put it in anyway and tightened the remaining 2 bolts (I have an S13).

Now I believe it may be one of two problems. The sound is a result of the third bolt not being tightenned or the mounting plate to begin with was mounted wrong and is grinding against the shock tower when I make turns. These are simply speculations and to be honest, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to cars so I may be completely wrong.

What do you think is the cause of this noise, NICO? Also a solution as to how I might get that bolt back in without replacing my mounting plate would help. The mechanic that I brought it to when I got an allignment wouldn't weld it .

Dan,

If the a$$ wont tack weld it, take the strut off, go to home depot and get some stuff called "JB Weld." Clean the stud and the upper mount up really nice (use rubbing alcohol and soap and water, the more powerful the detergent the better). Once clean, rough up the bottom of the upper mount with heavy grit sand paper. Clean it again. Mix the JB Weld and apply it to the flange on the bottom of the stud, and try to get it lined up straight so that the bumps on the flange set into the recesses in the upper mount (look closely, you'll see what i'm talking about). Clamp the bolt in place and let it set. Reinstall the strut. If done properly, the JB weld should give you enough torque resistance that you can tighten the bolt down enough to pull the stud back into the upper mount.

One_Love, i suppose some people might consider it a popping sound. i can't quite discribe the sound better than i already have.

neel, although that guy wont tack weld it, i can probably get another one to do it. i have to change the tie rod on that side anyway so when i go get that installed, i'll have them look at it. but is it certain that the loose bolt is the cause?
