It's a bit of a pain, but it is something you can do yourself. Hell, I did it. If I can do it, so can you. It involves taking the rear seat out and the parcel shelf. Then take out the lining in the back of the trunk. You'll see the fuel tank and the pump is on top. Since it is such a pain in the arse to get there, see if the pump is good. If it's buzzing, then change it too. If you want to see if the gas smell is from the o ring, then take that back lining from the back of the trunk first, which is much easier that taking the seat out and see if you smell gas in the trunk. If not, then the gas smell is from something else. I have pictures from when I did my fuel pump in my photo gallery. Just click on the picture of my car and go to page 9.
