Whenever I'm turning or reversing my 2009 G37xS I hear a grinding noise. Is this my CV joint or is it something more serious??

If turning it could be a CV issue but if you are simply reversing (and not turning) and get the same noise then it may not be. Where is the noise coming from, I'm assuming the front? Have you looked under to see if the CV boots are split? Does the wheel have play?

No noticeable play in steering.. it's coming from my front left wheel area.. when reversing down my driveway, which has a slight incline, I hear it. Also when I turn sharply at low speeds I will hear a grinding/rubbing sound.. thanks for the help

Jack the car up and yank on the wheel to see if you have a bearing issue. Look at the inner wheel liners to see if there is any rubbing. Check all the bolts for the upper and lower control arms, sway bar end links, shock tower mounts, etc. Visually inspect the CV boots for rips.

When you hear the grinding do you feel it through the steering wheel? Have you noticed any oil leaks or grease splatters?

No I haven't seen any leaks or splatters.. occasionally I can feel the grinding in the steering wheel.. I've ordered a new cv half axle.. I too thought that possibly it was a bearing issue. I will have a mechanic looking this week

Turns out it was a piece of plastic rubbing and grinding under my car..I guess the bolt was stripped (during a oil change at a non Infiniti trained establishment) and must have fallen out.. the loose plastic was causing the terrible noise.. it has been fixed and everything is back to normal for now..I WILL ONLY ALLOW TRAINED INFINITI TECHNICIANS TO SERVICE FROM NOW ON .. thanks for your support
