Grinding noise when clutch isnt pushed in

searched, no avail...

1988 300zxwhen the clutch pedal isnt pushed in, theres this kind of..grinding noise..pretty loud.whenever u press the clutch pedal in, it disappears. it also seems to disappear in 4th.

any ideas? Bearing maybe??

Throw out bearing or Pilot bushing are bad.

..... hmmmmm might be an internal bearing int he trans, normlly the TO bearing whines when you press the clutch pedal in not when you let it out, I'd plan on swapping trannies

Got about the same problem in my 240first through third, when i let the clutch out and don't give gas or let it slow down, i get a horrible grinding noisea buddy of mine suggested the carrier bearing.. gotta change mine, i'll update if that fixes it

sharjt is right, that sounds like a throwout bearing. See if it makes the noise in neutral with the clutch let out.

We just had a 91 240sx in at the dealership that had the same noise. I was coming internally from the trans.
