Hi.

I recently purchased a used 2003 M45. I noticed on cold starts there's kind of a grinding noise that comes from the engine compartment. This happens whether car is idling, in drive and or reverse. Once the car is in motion the noise dissipates. This only happens when the engine is cold or if the cars is left seating for an extended period of time, 4 to 6 hours. It last about 1 minute or 2 also happens when I rev the car up to 3000 rpm. Once I drive the car for a couple for feet, turn off and back on the noise is gone.

Does anyone have any information on this?

thanks,James

When ever you buy a USED car, even a 6 year old one mandatory that you pay an expert on exact model technican a few hours to list all the defects, that previous owners caused or allowed tp progress without repair.

Every prebuy inspection [5+ years old] car I have done has needed $3,000+ in work to return to as new condition.

Hopefully just idler pulley bearings and belts and not internal engine noise from lack of 90 day oil changes.

Only Infiniti dealer techs will have the experience.

Please explain more on the grinding noise check your fluids, there are 2 resevoirs with ATF, one is for the power steering and one is for your cooling fan. Also check your serpertine adjusters and bearings.

Also I would go buy a dip stick from the dealer for your transmission, take the dummy cap and have the dip stick in place.
