I have grinding noise at around 2-2.5k rpm. So it's rpm related, it only does this when in gear, the noise is worst at 4th gear.

I thought it's rattling sound from heat shield or something, but I have eliminated all this possibilities.

I have J30 vlsd, I wonder whether there is something with the center shaft length?

Did it do it before you installed the J30 VLSD?

Or did it do it right after you got it installed?

Wow another dude from Columbus. Anyway I think what Asmar was getting at is when did the rattling start? Any other circumstances that you can think of that may have led to it?

This makes me curious too. I had that problem in my old s13 with an sr swap. It would make this crazy noise under decel in 4th gear. I had an ACT heavy duty clutch/plate. I was told it was the carrier bearing in the transmission. I never figured out what it was, and I never bothered to fix it. It never got worse and it didn't effect the performance of the car. Weird.

i have an open diff in a s14 w/ an s14 sr swap makes the same noise in pretty much every gear worse in the 3rd or 4th gear range. no adverse effects so far but i would like to fix it if it's possible. the noise got worse when i put the subframe spacers in so i assume it's in the rear. like a metal rattle/grind. lemme know if you come up w/ anything.

From what I understand, it's just a common noise from ACT clutches...

When I bought the car, with the LSD installed, there is so much noise and so much other rattles in the car, I cannot tell.

congratsyou bought yourself a 240sx

now i reccomend u drive the car with a friend next 2 u, perhaps lean out the windowat least this way u can tell which HALF of the car its coming fromyour lsd in the back, underneath u in ur drivetrain, or the front half near ur engine

or get a friend in a different car to coast near you

posting saying your car makes a grinding noise and not even giving a general area as to diagnose the problem is not going to help you or help us help you

now heres your excuse to go vroom down the highway
