Alright guys i just did a ka24e to a ka24de swap. I put my transmission on with a stage 1 clutch and when i started it i heard a grindong noise and my transmission started smoking. so i took the transmission off and noticed that the fork with the throwout bearing in the transmission isn't going all the way back. so i have no idea how to fix it. I really need help. Also if anyone knows how much the pressure plate needs to be torqued down for the stage clutch?

Sounds like the bearing is seizing up on the input shaft. Did you pack the throwout bearing sleeve with lithium grease according to the service manual? Also put a bit on the fulcrum point of the fork lever. Make sure the fork/bearing moves freely before you put the transmission back in.

The manual specifies 16-22 ft-lb torque for a standard clutch pressure plate. Your stage 1 clutch may be different. Put it on in a star pattern couple of turns each bolt until it's good.

sorry for the late message but my computer was down. So i tried what you said but it didn't work. i changed the sleeve and throwout bearing from a single cam to a dual cam because they are different. I pushed in the fork where the slave cylinder goes to see if it has clearance between the pressure plate and bearing and it did. It only grinds when my foot is off the clutch. when i push it in the grinding stops. I'm stumped i have no idea what it is.

Does it grind with the car in neutral at a stop? If so does the grinding stop if you push in the clutch? You may have a transmission issue.

It grinds when its in neutral and when i push the clutch in it stops. When i dropped the transmission i took all the pieces apart in the bell housing and then put it back together correctly. When i start up the car, after barely putting the transmission in, it doesn't grind. but as soon as i push the clutch in and then let it out it the T.B. grinds and it doesn't stop until i push the clutch in. Could it be that maybe i have the wrong clutch?

If it grinds in neutral and doesn't grind with the clutch pedal pushed in then the grinding is likely from the input shaft and/or in the transmission. In neutral the only thing different with the clutch engaged or disengaged is that the input shaft is turning. Especially the grinding isn't affected by which gear you are in (or neutral). It could be a wrong or dry throwout bearing grinding against the input shaft.

yeah the spring inside the shift fork seems kinda loose that doesn't pull the shift fork back where its supposed to be i think that is the problem. what do you think?

The to bearing is pushed back by the pressure plate springs. The spring inside the fork keeps it on the post, nothing more.

Are you sure you put in the correct to bearing?

The noise has to be from the to bearing or front main transmission bearing. I think you need to drop the transmission and find the problem.
