grinding/ chattering

when i start off from a stop and give it a moderate amount of gas i feel this chattering or grinding as if i'm driving over small rocks. it seems to only do this until the transmission shifts to the next gear and only from a stop. any ideas? 1996 SE Auto 165kms thanks

I have to be honest, I don't know.But I have to ask -- are you driving over small rocks?
