Look at the little metal, stainless clip on the caliper that rests under the pads. You can probably do this with the wheels on. If that clip is bent out too much, it may be contacting the wheel.
If you can, jack up a front tire & see if the grinding is present if you turn a wheel. Then take a wheel off and see if the rotor spins free (or close to it).
The Rust on rotors response from the service writer was a "tell him something to make him go away" answer. Pretty much all rotors will have some rust on them and if you used the car at all prior to them looking at it, the rust was removed as you pulled in and stopped in to tell them you were there for service.
The next action, after finding a grinding when you looked at it, is to take it to a place that offers free brake inspections. Take their information with a grain of salt and DO NOT use their recommended services. Just make sure that they don't come back with "you have 5% remaining on your front pads and you are down to the wear indicators" as an answer to what might be wrong.
If they say a caliper is hanging you'll have already found this out when you looked at the front wheel yourself. The free inspection place is just to confirm it. Take it back to the dealer & ask them to check for a hung caliper.
