Posted up in the general section and didnt get a hit all morning, didnt realize this forum was here so ill try my luck here.

So i searched and found many different answers, nothing definate. Due to recent events with my camaro im forced to get a new car, ive always wanted a 240 and nows my chance to jump on one. Ive got one lined up thats good on everything except one issue. It grinds second gear. It shifts fine into every other gear just has a grinding noise when going from 1-2. Now the guy i might be buying it from said he had it at a shop here locally, Zfever. They do pretty good work from what i hear. He says that Zfever told him that the hydraulic system needed to be bled and the issue would go away, however in my search im finding alot of different answers, im going to call and talk to zfever and see what they say but i dont want to buy a car with issues. Im not familiar with transmissions on this car so im not sure if thats a common problem/fix or if a syncro going bad is more common or the actual culprit.

Its a SR swapped car with the respective 5 speed transmission with a stage 3 clutch.

Thanks for any help.

Same thing happened to me and my 93, synchro's started going bad so I swapped the trans for a lesser mileage one.

Yea i called up zfever and they told me the same thing, trannys are cheap though. Also while i at least have someones attention, The idle of the car is 1500rpm give or take a few. He said the timing was advanced cause it was "better for the car". Ive never hear of that, any like common problems in that area?

Put the timing back to factory spec and your car will run better, you might also have to adjust the idle screw to get that ish down to 750-800.

There is a whole section on Nico for the KA(D)/KA(e) engines.

Sorry, i guess what i was asking is does advancing the timing raise the idle that high? Im pretty new to 240's but my camaro even with the idle advanced doesnt hit 1500rpm. I tried searching but i guess i havent gotten the hang of the search feature just yet lol.

yeah the search function can be hard to use when thread have terrible titles.

in my experience advancing the timing didn't change my idle much, the idle adjustment screw is what adjusts it directly.

recently I put the red line transmission oil in my s14 and I did not like it at all. it was hard to put into reverse and second was very crunchy. I double checked and it was the weight recommended. a friend started to use GM syncromesh transmission oil in his miata and swears by it! I used it in my Nissan and it is like a whole new transmission. I highly suggest anyone with a rough transmission try it. you can get it at the local chevrolet parts department.

GM HAS A PART NUMBER OF 12345349 FOR SYNCHROMESH TRANS FLUID AND THE OLD NUMBER IS 1052931 LABELED MANUAL TRANS FLUID. :-) I WORK IN A GM PARTS DEPARTMENT AND I SWEAR BY THIS STUFF WITH FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE!!!
