grille after a slight fix:

and my shaved trunk lid...

about the shaved lid, i wet sanded it with 1500 paper and wanted to buff it out but the paint doesn't want to get shiny despite polishing. anyone got any suggestions?

Looks much better. Once you get the bottoms finished it will look even better. And on the trunk its kind of hard to tell because that picture is blurry but i think that a car wash and then a wax or polish will help. I know that you probably already went nuts polishing that area. Is there any residue left from the emblems?

The grille look good.

As for the trunk, Beancooker had great luck wet-sanding his G35. Maybe he'll have some helpful input.

well i got adhesive remover so had no glue left but i had strong outilnes after the letters so i tried to wet sand them off and went a little too far. but i guess it's no big deal since the summer is coming, i'll just get a can of paint and fix it along with a bunch of other body work i have planned.

As far as not being able to get it to shine. 1500 grit is fairly coarse for sanding clear coat. You may have cut through the clear coat.

You will need to buff it out no matter what. I would buff it, and not sand anymore, since the clear coat is really thin there.

I did a write up on wetsanding a car. It is very time consuming, and a royal PITA, but well worth it when it's done.

thanks beancooker but i figured i might as well repaint the back of the trunk since i have a huge gash on the right top part of it - i think you can somewhat see it in the pic - that goes down through the paint to metal.
