I also have a question about grill guards/ new aftermarket bumpers. I do plan on getting a 4 inch SFD and a 2 inch coil lift, along with all the other needed parts to accommodate these things. So that being said i would like some kind of after market grill guard or an aftermarket bumper. Something that i can mount a wench on.. So I need everyones opinions on this!! What do you have? What do your buddies have? What looks good? What works the best? Post pictures of anything that you have! Post anything you know and everything you know as well as pictures! Thanks Everyone!

The place to mount a wench is in the back of your truck with rear seats folded down. Or in bed. On the front bumper sounds uncomfortable and rather public.

Now, if you want to mount a winch, I can help you out.

If you want to mount to the front bumper, I recommend something that is made of VERY strong metal and attaches to the frame with some strong hardware.

A flimsy Waag, Westin or any other well known brand of brush guard will buckle under the strain of a winch. A strong ARB, TJM or similar winch bumper (they are called winch bumpers)will:
A) have a specific spot for the winch (some include a welded in mounting plate, others do not. You'll have to purchase seperately and either bolt it in (again with STRONG hardware) or weld it in)
B) have a place for the fairlead to run through.
C) have strong brackets and hardware to properly attach to the frame and distribute the added strain of the winch.

here is what happened to a Waag bullbar on a 98 Passport. Attached to the frame, they had a strap on it (stupid idea already).

So do I need to get a front bumper specifically made for a winch? Or could I just have a grill guard and attach it to the frame and mount a winch on that?? Or if you don't mind or If you have time could you txt? Or email me for faster response? Thank you though

Look for a specific winch bumper!!!!!

Some fabrication and offroad shops can make them for you.

I know of a guy in NC from my Isuzu days who might be able to help you out. His name is Joe Darlington. I know he roams around NC4x4.com as well as PlanetIsuzoo.com. I'm sure if you can find him, get his phone number and give him a ring, he will either be able to help or at least offer some insight. He operates his own business, Darlington Offroad Products out of Greensboro, NC (I think. Don't quote me however). I'll try to get in contact with him and see if he can help you out as well. 2 attempts to contact him are better than , I think.

But for best results I highly recommend getting a bumper made for winch applications. It will be able to handle the strain of a winch as well as the weight.

ARB and TJM are good options if you can afford it. However, I know times are tough and 1,500 bones for a bull bar is absurd. Joe is a decent guy to deal with and doesn't charge a ton from what I have heard. I get on here daily so I'll update this thread if I hear from him. I'll PM him tonight on the old Isuzu forum.

Alright I was able to contact him. He says he would be able to build you a bumper, but he would need your truck for measurements and to create a template. This is not unusual, since he is creating a custom bumper.

Contact him at

[email protected]

or call

208-590-0104

Joe is a great guy to deal with and will hook you up with a nice strong bumper. Good luck! :bigthumb:
