So my 07 G35 is starting to really come together, but I want to do a few more small things to it. The two things I want to do consist of blacking out the front grill, and getting black badges and emblems. I found a place that had all the black emblems and such for $240. This seems a little pricey for small emblems. As for the grill, I love the stock grill and dont really want to buy a new one. Is there a safe way to paint this grill, and if so what products should I use on the grill. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to paint the grill and anyone know of a cheaper place to buy emblems?

Here is my suggestion.

I think you should just paint your grill and emblems yourself.

If you get a nice black metallic for the emblems, you can pull them off yourself, sand and paint them.

Same for the grille, you could even keep it on, just sand and be sure to mask everything very carefully.

I painted mine with some duplicolor, and it still looks pretty good.

So pretty much sand it down to the base? with what fine sand paper? and what type of paint do you suggest. Any certain brand?

If your car is black then it's more important to match the blacks... Mine didn't match perfectly, but it helps to break it apart from the rest of the car.

I would recommend the following:

300 grit sandpaper - just enough to create a smooth texture for the paint to adhere toClean with an amonia free solvent or mild soap /water mixDry thoroughlyA high-quality primer (2 coats)A series of 2 light coats Black (Duplicolor)A final medium coat of Black (Duplicolor)2-3 final coats of clear coat.

Good luck... Try a heatgun or hairdryer to heat up the goo behind the emblems, try some fishing line to floss them off your G... and some goo gone

I think this is what you found or some place that gets their's from the same place:

I have seen these at other dealers as well. Keep in mind that these are black chrome, not painted which I would not do. I would either take them off altogether or get some like these. If you are going to do it, do it right.

DAMNIT you convinced me Pfarmer! I shall buy em...hahah but wat u think my car is silver so the front grill i was going to do black to go along with my whole "theme", but the grill emblem I was going to do silver. The back emblems black. Then I dont know if the inconsistency of emblem color would be good or what. So what do you think?

I think I would photoshop this which is fairly easy to do. Basically for computer painting purposes chrome is black, not white like some assume. I would try to blacken it on a picture to get some idea what it would look like.

For the grill I would be tempted to go without the emblem. Also if you go to the same site I mentioned you will see another type of grill. I have seen these on Infinitis at the dealer I purchased my car from and they look pretty damn good. On the other hand at the same dealer they now have the new black grill as well and I have to say I am not so sure which one I would get.

If I got the non-original style then I would consider lighting it up a little bit from above and below to add a little something 'extra' to it. For the stock grille type I think I would go with a little lighting from above only.

You could also do something along these lines with the emblem by sinking flat top LEDs even with the surface.

Keep in mind that you have other options with colors when it comes to chrome. I don't personally know of a shop that is still open that does this, however I have seen things that were 'chromed' in other colors than what we normally are used to.

You could always 'fake it' down at the local hobby shop. They often have a nice selection of metalized coverings.

GOOD NEWS I found a place that literally does the front and back emblems any color (and it looks legit and banging). It is in NY, if anyone wants the contact...just e-mail me ([email protected])
