Quote »they do that because its not normal for them to make things plural..if they did they wouldn't be able just to make the "s" sound because it's not in there alphabet to do just that. Ex..they can't say just grapes...it would have to be grapesuh. understand any? i'm korean but don't have any problem with plurals..but my parents do[/quote]

I was going to ask you this earlier but the particular thread I got this from was closed.

So there is no stand alone "S" sound in Korean? Does this also hold the same for words or names that end in M or other sounds? as I was reading your example I was thinking of a couple of friends of mines . I have a friend named Terrence and always noticed his mom pronounced his name Terrencesuh and also I ask about the M because same goes for a friend of mine named Adam I always heard his mom say Adameh. Is this the same thing or just with plurals?

Reason I ask is because I always thought them adding the sounds at the end was an (my apoligies in advance if ths is a crappy explination) Honorific kind of how in japanese they add -san, chan, o, (and others I cant think of right now) to the end of names when addressing someone. If you can answer this thanx.

yea it's basically the same thing. the "s" sound can't just be that..it has to have the "suh" sound because it's like a rule for the korean language. and same thing with the "m" sound..can't just have the "m" sound. It's like having no vowels in the word..it has to have that or the word makes no since. I can't write korean with this computer and it wouldn't show up probably on ur computer...it would be easier to understand if you saw it written. Have ur friends mom show you what i'm talkin about...

similarly in japanese; almost every sound is a complete sylable; a consanant and vowel. Also some english sounds don't exist at all, like the letter "L" the closest thing are the "R" sounds (ra ri ru re ro). this concludes the lesson for the day.

i kno you can't end with "s" in korean...but i thought you could end with "m" It would just be the square symbol (can't think of a better way to describe it right now) at the end wouldn't it?
