Greg (Hitman) I've got a website-related question for you. Advice, perhaps...

You probably know I've got a little hobby website. Seeing as you have a very well-run site and you've recently had trouble with and dealt with some hackers, and as you generally know a hell of a lot more than I do, I figured you'd be a good person to ask about this:

On my site, I have a blog. I use the blog mainly to keep visitors up to date about the site. Today, I checked my email to find dozens of comments made on the posts in my blog. So I go to the blog and find that each post has four comments, each from an online casino, with some stupid, pointless quote and then a link to the site.

I now have dozens and dozens of pointless posts to delete.

I consider this an invasion of my personal webspace, as well as unpaid advertising. Is there any legal action or anything else I can do to stop this if it continues? I made a post on the blog warning them to stop, and saying that continuation of the comments would not be tolerated, and I hope that will be enough.

I know this is far from a car-related topic, but you were the first person I thought of to ask about this. Thanks for any help you can give.

Not much you can do that's not software-related.

You can implement a flood control, which can be a PITA, or you can switch do a different software package that is more secure.

We still get people who go through the trouble of registering and then try to sling spam on the boards, but they get moderated pretty quick. If it continues, i execute a full email and IP ban, which keeps anyone from that email and/or IP from registering on the boards again.

Depends on how much control you have over the code. You could set it up to reject posts based on certain words in the post, if that would help any. You could also make an interface where you could just put a check by the ones you wanted to delete, and delete them en-masse.

Thanks guys.

I think I need new software...I can't ban IP's OR set up a filter to do any of that with what I've got.
