Hello all!

My name is Francisco, i am 24 and i finally found my dream car! Ive been waiting patiently to find my first J30 and today was my lucky day. I found a 1996 J30t on craigslist with 170k for $900! yep a fully running touring model (emerald green) for a this magnificent price. The plan is purchasing some coilovers made for a y32 nissan cima from our brothers in Japan. Hopefully it will get here soon and HOPEFULLY this works for J30s with minimum customization.

Here is a link of what im talking about:

After trying to learn everything there is to know about J30 suspension on our forums, i decided the only way to learn more is by contacting our Japanese brothers. So i did the most sensible thing and registered my car under Minkara. From there i contacted some of the japanese J ferrie guys and wondered how they got so low on their J's. So far i only received 1 response and this is what he said:

Subject RE: Hello!
Body Thank you for E-mail.

My LEOPARD used SILVIA(240sx?)'s suspension.

LEOPARD can use SILVIA's parts.

SILVIA's model is S14 or S15.

I changed Shock, Knuckle, Tie-rod-end, and Lower-arm.

(FR & RR shock's upper-mount is LEOPARD's upper-mount use.)

SILVIA's shock can drop than LEOPARD's shock because short.

My LEOPARD can drop more.

But I have put up because wanted to drift.

I hope your success.

Thank you.

and this is is car for reference:

thanks fellas! i decided not to get the Y32 cima coilovers because shipping with the hubs would cost more than $600, and thats not even a guarantee that the parts will line up :frown:

This is what i purchased this week. most parts were purchased from ebay with the exception of the S14 240sx spindles/hubs from zilvia.net and the S14 lower control arms, which i got from craigslist. Just waiting for them to come in the mail and then ill take pics

- S14 lower control arms $60.00
- 2 front outer tie rod ends part no. (36160200086) $68.00
- z32 300zx front sway bar $39.99
- circuit sports front sway bar links for S13 $34.64
- s14 240sx front spindle (knuckle and hub) $190.00
- replacement antenna mast :P $16.75

at this point im looking for s14/s15 coilovers for cheap. i think i saw a set of Zeal Coilovers for cheap in UG. ill keep ya posted!

S14 coilovers are too tall in the rear. You use S14 front, S13 rear. Get the S14/z32 tension rod bushings too, they are cheap. I havent gotten to the suspension on this one yet.

thanks for advice man.

unfortunately i already bought the Zeal function coilovers from Upgarage for S14 about a week ago for $530 shipped. just waiting on them to get here.

thanks ill get on those tension rod bushings.

if anybody is interested, GTR Garage from Zilivia ships parts from japan to the US for good prices whether its UpGarage or Yahoo Auctions Japan. Plenty of stuff in japan for half the price.

I used this DIY to replace the autozone Water pump installed by previous owner (leaking like a faucet)

http://z32.wikispaces.com/Timing+Belt+Service

Then added new belts, thermostat, short rad hoses, overall a productive weekend. also added my new passenger turn signal.

ordered Megan S13 240sx tension rods because i feel the toe out is due to the S14 240sx tension rods being 1" longer. So waiting for those to come in and then getting that alignment then those SPL's are for sale

Installed S13 Megan tension rods which are more stock as far as size with room for adjustment.
Image

Also got back the alignment sheet. Need to find adjustable camber arms to correct the camber up front and new adjustable camber arms and toe arms for the rear just to get it in spec at this low height.
Image

Next on the list:
- Install Infinity Sound system
- purchase adjustable arms for front and rear
- refinish Enkei ABC rims
- get alignment when rims and arms are installed

Few things ordered and on the way.

- EG6 Sir front lip (just a little ground effect)
- Enkeis finally arrived! (will buy tires when i add the rear suspension parts and get alignment)
- Powertrix RUCA for that camber adjustment
- Megan rear toe arms for toe adjustment

I think once all these are added ill go ahead and start working on the braking system.

Cleaned out the IACV and the throttle bodies to maybe cure the lack of acceleration and idling issues ive been having. Definitely helped with the idle issue and it kinda helped for the accel issue :/. Used a cereal box for the gasket for the IACV and it worked like a charm.

Still need to replace the Knock sensor. I already have it but not the harness so i can relocate it under the balance tubes.

a couple of updates:

- fixed both driver and passenger door lock actuators, now the door opens from the outside and inside, what a luxury

- Unclogged the EGR tubes. That was really tough because it had lots of carbon buildup both driver and passenger, easily a 2 day job if you are just figuring it out as you go along

- after emissions im going to tackle the 5 speed swap ( ill have 2 years to figure out how i can trick the CEL and hook up a hydro ebrake or lever parking brake instead of the foot ebrake)

Sorry no pics this time amigos, ill get some fall shots soon enough

Wow man nice build thread!

I used to have a J30 and always wanted to lower it. Basically you can use the S13/S14 suspension to do so?

You sure that EG6 front lip is going to fit? I made my own front lip and it seemed to do the job.

There's a better example out there but i cant find it at the moment.

Suspension list:

Front Setup:
- S14 Zeal Coilovers in the front $600
- S13 megan adjustable tension rods $120
- S14 lower control arms and S14 ball joints $40
- 2 front outer tie rod ends part no. (36160200086) $40
- Z32 300zx front sway bar $40
- S13 circuit sports front sway bar links $60
- S14 240sx front spindle (knuckle and hub) non ABS $180

Rear:
- S14 Zeal Top hats $0
- S13 HKS Hypermax D Coilovers $400
- Z32 Powertrix Rear adj. upper arms $180
- Z32/S13 wicked tuning rear adj. toe arms $120

I have a feeling Infiniti Q45 (Y33) coilovers are compatible with the J30. Since J30/Q45 aftermarket coilovers have a weld on design for the front spindle plus the rear top hats for the J30 / Q45 fit the S14 BUT are shorter in length makes the setup almost similar.

Im guna order these rear JIC coilovers from Croober that are made for the Y33 Q45 and ill let you guys know.

Big update:

Decided to order a set of Y32 Algernon Coilovers with Spindles. To my surprise the label on the bottom of the coilovers read "Y33". Im crossing my fingers to see if Y33 Q45 coilovers are compatible with our cars.

I can't turn back on the suspension setup since the old J30 spindles, hubs, LCA, sway bar is trashed and im running S-chassis suspension parts instead. The goal is to utilize the Front Algernon coilover and use the the Zeal lower coilover mount for the time being. ill hold on to these Algernon spindles for my next J30/Q45 project in the future. The rear should be a bolt on process since the height of the coilover is similar to an S13 but utilizes S14 top mounts (the best of both worlds). Without further adieu....

Gotta love Jesse Streeter! Very professional and an honest middle man
