Post

Hello my name is JT  and I am a relatively new Maxima owner. I've always drove Chevys (I hope that word is allowed here) I have a 85 Monte Carlo SS and 2002 Monte Carlo SS. A relative sells me her 2002 Maxima GLE for 3500 split from husband turns out in my favor! Wrong! this car has drove me nuts and Im really looking for some encouragement.

Within three months

Engine light - Codes read crank shaft/cam shaft positioning sensor
Got the work done $440 (National Tire and Battery)
Drive the vehicle home once i get off Check engine light again and the car is driving strange.
$ 765 four new tires pretty good sale and full engine diagnostic + $668 Replaced 3 coil packs along back of the engine (firestone)

3 HOURS LATER
Timing chain has stretched and the car jumped time Nissan Dealer tells me I need a new engine should not be a problem to get me a new one for 12,000. Needless to say I laughed as i dialed AAA to come get the car.

Buy an engine 92,000 miles 6 month warranty $1,200 dropped in for $800
while putting it in noticed the firewall catalytic converter is bad so theres $300

Pull off Engine light comes on later down the road 02 sensor bank 5 $80
and some other sensor I cant recall the name of $68

Prior to pulling off I ask will I pass emissions he says yes.
Well today I didn't pass nor did I make it before the engine light came on again!!!!!

P0138 O2 sensor!!!! :wtf2:

This shop does still have my old engine he allegedly couldn't get the bank 5 sensor out "froze in there good" he said!! :bs:

At this point i'm just kind of getting fed up any advice would be greatly appreciated. Because I really do love the car quick and comfy what more do I need other than this engine light off!!!!! :werd:

P0138 means that the reading from the rear O2 sensor is above a specific threshold. The input from this sensor does not affect engine control and driveability; its only job is to report a potential emission problem. I would try the following (in the order listed):
- Buy a cat converter cleaner (try "Guaranteed to Pass" by CRC) and apply it before your next emission test,
- Install an "O2 simulator"; there are two types - electronic and mechanical; Google it.
- New cat converter (last resort).

Good luck!
