Well first off I have a 96 240sx Se 108k and I have decided its time to start a build thread I guess..... So ill start out like this. After a long night of drifting in a local parking lot in which I have permission to do so at. I got the evil death rattle. :nono: ugh ... So I brought her home to its resting place for now thank god tax time is here.

Anyways I'm not really sure what I wanna put in yet. I think this would be great to get some feedback relatively new to drifting. But have done auto cross for a while and apparently I'm really good at drifting. As far as my angles and recovery.... I'm looking into serious drifting and tons of different swaps in the future.

I'm wondering if the standard sr20 swap would be a good start point for this beginner. I have 7400 saved up plus a whopping 3400 coming for tax return in 10 days. So funds surprisingly isn't an issue at this point. But I gotta do this right.

No cutting corners! I don't wanna be wrapping my engine out at a 45 degree angle at 50 mph and something go wrong.... And be embarrassed. Yes I have taken the ka 240 slidewayz at 60 mph. After that I can't hold to much more than a 7 or 8 second drift. little power and very scary at 45 mph and catch traction cause you can't keep the wheels turning. Due to the whole 165hp at the crank.

I have tried cluch kicking multiple time during drift to keep her going but I fall on my face. Btw I have the vlsd but I think I may need a 2 way to make a statement if you know what I mean... Any suggestions ! btw a walk through on posting pics would be much appreciated. I've looked and I'm not to computer savvy but to my understanding it cost money to post pics so I'm hella confused on that whole situation.

reallly depends on what you like. will this car be daily driven alot? or strickly track use where your at 4500+ RPMs the whole time? im currently piecing together a 1jz swap you can swap a 1jz in for about 3500 same as the sr20. and a 1jz is rated at 280hp and 300ft/lbs sr is only a depressing 205hp. however you can have an sr dropped in in less then a day given that you have all the needed parts. rb series engines are always a good choice however they can be a headache as any other non cookie cutter swap.

with all that being said why not swap an ls1 in your looking for reliable power that can turn the wheels (torque) ls1 is right at 350hp/350ftlbs its proven reliable and with rising gas prices its nice that you can run 87/89 octane you can swap one in comfortably for 3500-4000 just like most other swaps and power adders are fairly simple ls6 cam gives you 40hp which is crazy for a stock cam swap. ram air intake and a good flowing exhaust with a mild port and polish and ls6 intake mani and your already over 400hp and you can do those upgrades for around 500-750 plus the cool factor of a 6 speed. ls1 is and aluminum motor if taken from the trans am camero corvette gto g8 ect. you can get an iron block from the trucks which only weighs 80lbs more and thats about the same weight as a iron block 6cyl with intercooler, piping and big AZZ turbo.

another option is always something unique but with unique comes tedious, higher cost, and higher cost :) but alot of the time the cool factor out weighs the cost

have you thought about the vq35? or a 1uz v8? or even a 4g63 from an evo they make massive power on stock bottom end. or even a 4g64 hybrid (4g64 bottom, 63 head) or even a 5.6 from a titan

it really boils down to what are your expectations with your car, where will it go, are you looking for ease of install more then wildness or originallity, and the big question how mucha re you really willing to spend. because you can quickly rack up a bill for supporting mods and upgrades that is more then triple the price on the actual engine.

hope i could lighten up the load on your brain a little

Oh god you made it a bit worse but these are things I need to think about. I'm willing to spend all of it for a top of the line build and cleanness is a must. Ease is pretty important considering I don't own a shop . And am limited on tools like a tig wielder and fab tools I'd like an awesome swap good play room with power. And a track and weekend cruiser to show some cocky rich boys that Nissan is where it's at. Now 4g63 sounds amazing but sounds to technical and they are a pain to work on but I know them in and out. I'm guessing a good sr swap would be good. With a ems and some stop rockers and a baffled oil pan with a decent turbo some rods pistons 1 piece driveshaft 15 psi and lots of potenza street radials

Sr's will comfortably hold 350 on stock bottom with a gt37 turbo 550 injectors and a good clutch. Have you ever driven a 500hp mustang gt? That's what 350 will feel like in your s14. You can find swap mounts for just about every engine I listed aside from 4g63 never seen that. Check out enjuku racing. There pretty competativly priced. As for built internals and a stand alone. Make sure you get the motor blue printed and balanced. It's worth the extra money and look into greddy stand alone. If your looking for 600hp good luck on the street it'll be more pain then fun. Especially if its your first experience with that kind of power in a light car like that.

Honestly not looking into that much power honestly 300 is perfect I don't need crazy hp but I want her built for piece of mind and wiggle room for upgrading ans far as blue printing and balanced I 100 percent agree worth every penny as far as cluch and flywheel one what type and what stage I guess cause I'm ordering that tomorrow I don't really like a light clutch pedal I like it stiff I guess like cable clutch stiff it feels better but I just don't want it lighter than stock cause yea mine was pretty light and very hard to get used to will a eBay inter cooler and piping surfice or is that cutting to much corners I want it ligit but I don't wanna hit a cone or pole and destroy a 700 dollar inter cooler and what replacement parts should I buy lots of cause with wrapping out the engine things will fail quickly obviously so any parts should I look for

....what death rattle, exactly, at 108k?

Like, the "broke off a plastic timing guide" rattle?

I see you're trying to part the motor out as having a spun bearing, but why do you think a bearing spun on a stock motor in a parking lot? Death rattle does not denote the violent slamming that I'm pretty sure a spun or thrown bearing should cause.

If you can provide a running/cranking video, I might buy the crap off of you.
