i did a search and that came up dry. The gauge is a Greddy Warning Meter temp gauge. I, unlike some, am not gifted with the ability to read japanese so i have no clue what the directions say for the wires. so here is the problem

4 wires: red, black, white, brown.

now i know the red is the power and black is ground but what do the white and brown go to. im guessing white is illumination, but that still leaves me with what to do with the brown. what are these two wires and where to they go?

your assumptions sound correct. since you have figured out the power, ground, and illumination, whats left? well the gauge needs a signal of course, something to tell it when to go off. i assume the brown wire is your input for the gauge.

the gauge has a link unit...so the brown does not go into the sensor...another plug takes care of that

to complicate things a little, i found a yellow wire as well that has a connecter on it but i dont see where that connecter goes. its on the opposite end to where the link plug is so i wouldnt expect it to go into the link...once i cool off ill go take pics to show

awesome, i was just about to ask for pics. at first i was thinking the yellow wire was 12v constant, but it would only need that if it had a memory feature or something.

wires....i still dont know where to plug the yellow wire into...there is a small plug in the link unit that i think it might go into, but it doesnt make sence to put the yellow plug at the opposit end of the link connector

first of all, if you dont have a multimeter, buy or borrow one. you will need it. the yellow wire you wont be using. its an optional output, to send the warning to another unit (or to toggle something, i cant tell.) look through your FSM and find the wiring diagram for the ignition harness (this is where i would prbably wire it, its out of the way yet not far from your A pillar.) find the wire that has 12v at all times (probably labeled as simply 12v, or battery). test it with the meter with the key off, then on just to make sure it has 12v at all times. splice, solder and tape it. the orange wire will go to a 12v "switched" wire, a wire with 12 volts ONLY when the key is on. try searching for the actual ignition wire in the harness. if you have a drill at home, i would get a self tapping screw and drill a ground for it, but its not necessary. you could just splice it into an existing ground. as for the white wire, there are a few ways you could do this. most cars have an actual illumination wire, this would be optimal because then the gauge light would only be on when the dash is illuminated. you can also find the headlight switch in your wiring diagram and find the wire that sends power to the headlights when they are turned on, so the gauge will only light up when the headlights are on. and if for some reason you want it to always be illuminated, hook it up to that ignition wire so its on whenever the key is. hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanx that helped.

i wired it all up but it doesnt illuminate, but i think i just figured it out...i wired the constent into the stereos harness but i wired it thinking the red wire in the harness was constent when its the yellow one (why does it have to depart from the norm). ill have change it tomorrow.

thanx for the help again

yup you got it right. when i first got into installing car audio that used to always throw me off. but figuring out your own problems is probably the best way to learn. if you need any more help, let me know.
