A friend of mine has a pair of Greddy Type S BOVs just sitting and I was thinking to installing them on a 91 300zx. Now I noticed on some pictures I saw on the net that it looks like the stock BOVs dump the blow off air back into the intake AFTER the air flow meter (haven’t had time to tear into the car fist hand yet). If I were to install the BOVs and block off this pipe and leave the BOV open, would the car end up running rich or bad in any other way? I know this can happen on STis. Has anyone installed some Greddy Type S BOVs on their ZX? Is this BOV maybe not the best choice for the ZX?

I have seen plenty of Z32's some with big HP! running standard BOV's that vent to the atmosphere, the stock unit likely returns the air to the intake track to keep the noise down and make the car less obvious, I know on L28ET's and some DSM's and turbofords they used AFM's that required the air be recirculated, I don't think it's an issue for the Z32's

Known issues w. installing BOVs in place of the recirc valves are stalling at speed if you suddenly lift off the throttle and occasional backfiring. They don't generally cause any major issues, but really aren't a necessary upgrade until you are pushing over 20psi, as the stock recircs will work fine up to that pressure range.

I run open air BOV's on my Z for what its worth. But as boileralum said you don't really need them until you're pushing big boost because the stock recirculation valves work fine but you can certainly do them if you like.

Also, for what its worth, the Greddy Type S are very nice BOV's.

Ya true, the car is only at stock boost right now. Another thing is that not even 12 hours after my friend had the car, a middle age Gentleman asked to buy it! So now if he sells it there is really no reason to install them. O well, i guess ill just have to keep them for my self :
